If you spend enough time on TikTok, you're likely to find at least a couple of helpful folks who will try to give us the information we need to escape from perilous situations.

Sometimes they're speaking from serious military experience and sometimes they've just had to do a lot of strange research in their time, but what they have to share could be valuable in panic-inducing situations that might otherwise seem hopeless.

And since those situations can often find us submerged or fending off some unexpected attacker, there are usually at least a few steps to their advice.

However, that's not exactly the case for the tips we're about to go over today. Because while they can definitely save our lives, they're also alerting us to subtle warning signs that we're more likely to experience in our daily lives.

Adorian Deck is a man known for posting interesting factoids on TikTok, but one of his videos is primed to do more than just amuse us.

And as we'll soon see, that's because it provides us with signs we can use to identify situations that are dangerous yet easy to ignore.

For instance, he said, "If your house smells like fish for absolutely no reason, there may be an electric fire."

According to GAC Services, this is because the plastic and chemical components used in outlets and electrical wiring can emit either a fishy or urine-like smell when a circuit overheats.

And when Deck's video does offer us advice on what to do, that advice is fairly simple and easy to remember.

For instance, he advises us to scratch anyone who abducts us, as that puts their DNA under our fingernails and potentially makes them easier to catch.

And while it sounds strange, he also advises spitting if you end up trapped in an avalanche because the spit will be subject to gravity. Whichever way it goes, we should try to dig in the opposite direction because that way is up.

Another warning sign that's very easy to ignore can arise if we notice that one of our pupils appears white in a photograph.

Because while the problems associated with this sign may not exactly put our lives in danger, it can have some serious implications for our eyes.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, when that white reflection covers most of the pupil as in this example, it could be a sign of cataracts, a detached retina, or an infection inside of the eye.

That said, it's also possible that the pupil looks that way because a person in the photo is looking off to the right, but it's more concerning if they're looking straight ahead.

As we can see from Deck's full video here, what we've just gone over is only a small sample of the advice he has for us.

Some of his tips can prevent us from blowing our entire homes up, some fly in the face of what we thought we knew (apparently going underwater when you're chased by bees doesn't help that much), and one very important one teaches us not to trust tornadoes that look like they're standing still.

Because as Deck put it, "If a tornado looks like it's not moving, it's because it's moving towards you."
