When a couple decides to make the serious, and often very public, pledge to spend the rest of their lives together during a wedding ceremony, most people expect them to at least like each other. However, sometimes it looks like the husband wife are getting a little bit more than cold feet. We've compiled 15 Reddit stories of wedding guests and that had to awkwardly witness couples that appeared to be dreading their weddings, rather than rejoicing for them. It seems like these couples won't get very far with the whole happily ever after thing.

Many are accustomed to weddings being full of laughter, life and conversation in honor of the special day. So, it's usually a bad sign if the bride and groom won't say a word to each other. Reddit user, Ankekid, received over 15,000 likes after writing, "They got married after a 10-year relationship. The wedding was painful to watch as they had such a bad fight the night before they barely spoke to each other all day, hardly looked at each other. They split up eight weeks later." It's a shock that they even got past their "I do's."

2. The avoidant wedding moment

It's a special kind of awkward when one partner is feeling it, but the other looks like they're fighting the urge to run away. Reddit user wehnaje, explained, "On their first dance, he kept trying to kiss her and she would avoid it very subtlety. I noticed that and thought 'Mmm... I don’t think she loves him'. I wasn’t wrong, they divorced within the first year." We're pretty sure they didn't part with any kind of sweet sorrow.

3. The high pressure wedding moment

It's a major problem when one person decides to tie the knot just to appease their partner. What's the merging of two souls for some, equates to finally getting their nagging partner to shut up for others. Reddit user cyaos wrote, "We were good friends with a couple who fought all the time. She wanted to get married desperately and he was indifferent. After years of nagging he finally proposed. On the day of the wedding, right before he walked out, he looked at us and sighed 'Well, maybe now she will stop nagging at me and finally be [expletive] happy' They are now divorced - she cheated on him with some guy she used to date." Yeah, that's definitely making us cringe.

4. The gold digger wedding moment

In the classic tale of the gold digger, one partner wants companionship while the other wants money. While no one can say exactly how each tale will end, most of us can guess that it won't end well. A Reddit user garnered over 10,000 likes for writing, "At a friends wedding (two years ago) the bride kept the bar open until 3 a.m. after the groom went home at 10 p.m. She kept telling everyone that she is just with him because he has money and a flat.

They are now going through a divorce after she cheated on him."

5. The tearful wedding moment

While no one is very surprised if the bride or groom cry happy tears, it's quite alarming when the groom makes the bride burst into sad tears in front of everyone. Birdhouseinursoul wrote, "During the cake cutting he smashed cake in her face. She immediately started crying and went to the bathroom for about 30 mins. Then they got into a huge fight and barely spoke the rest of the night. Shockingly they are still married, but they still fight all the time. She's my friend from college so we keep in touch occasionally. She never has good things to say about him." Apparently, cake doesn't solve everything, especially if it's smooshed into your face in front of people.

6. The impersonal wedding moment

Some couples burn for each other with a fiery passion, others are just cute and affectionate, some have strict no PDA rules. Then there are those that just seem like strangers. It's a bad sign when there's not even enough chemistry for the bride and groom to give the wedding kiss. Reddit user persephonenyc wrote, "When they said to kiss, they both went in for a peck, but she turned her face at the last minute so he kissed her cheek. My husband yelled for them to do it again (I was also their wedding photographer and he knew I didn’t get a good shot). The marriage only got weirder and worse from there. They acted like they were on an awkward first date every day. Finally a year later they divorced."

7. The violent wedding moment

It should be the ultimate red flag if there's any violence between the bride and groom, and the ultimate indicator that the marriage is very doomed. A Reddit user wrote, "While getting up the stairs, the groom stepped on the bride’s gown, she turned and slapped him and called him blind. He turned the other way and left." We get it, wedding dresses are important, but violence is never the answer.

With so much that goes into planning a wedding, it's hard to imagine planning anything else. Yet, some people are already crafting wedding number two. Reddit user, AudaRag explained,"I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the bride was planning her next wedding in the car on the way to the wedding. Everyone was completely silent before her maid of honor said 'Let’s just get through this one.' Edited to update: The couple lasted 3 years."

For years, whether it's in the movies or real life, in-laws have haven't gotten the best rep for being nice. However, when things are so bad that the couple has to publicly share their distain for the in-laws, it's a terrible sign for the marriage. Reddit user jbr0ad explained, "Bride got drunk and started screaming about how much she hated her in-laws... who were obviously within earshot. They lasted a few years, had kids, and unfortunately are spending thousands in a nasty divorce right now."

It's no secret, weddings can get expensive. Many people are careful to set budgets, look for deals and even ask family members to help out. However, when saving money overshadows the big day, 'Houston, we may have a problem.' Reddit user shivvy27 wrote, "Bride kept telling anyone who'd listen that she booked the wedding through Groupon and it was super cheap. They hadn't planned to get married until she saw the deal online. Not sure how long it lasted but she posted a sarcastic comment about how successful her marriage was on Facebook on her first anniversary (using the 'memories' feature)."

It's pretty common for just about everyone to drink on their wedding day, but getting super drunk is an entirely different story. We hate to say it, but if someone gets drunk on their wedding day, they may not be very pressed on remembering it. That certainly seems to be case for the groom that Reddit user pickmeacoolname describes, "He was so hammered he could barely stand for his vows and they got in a huge fight at the reception, lasted less than a year." It's pretty clear that he wasn't getting drunk on love that night.

Sometimes family members can't make it for the wedding because of scheduling, distance or childcare. However, when many are invited, and no one shows up — it's not a good sign. Messyprincess30 shared, "For me, it was the wedding in which half of the bride's family didn't show up. The bride didn't even know they weren't coming!" Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

While some people opt for the classic white dress and tuxedo combo, others go with other formal clothing or even plan matching casual outfits----the emphasis being, they plan it together. When one person decides to blow off what their partner wants, possibly embarrassing them, it's a bad sign. Reddit user, stormwatcher said, "When I went to a wedding a year ago in which the groom was dressed to the nines in a tuxedo, and the bride showed up in a T-shirt and torn jeans, saying she wanted to 'surprise' him. She did, but not in a good way."

It may seem typical that inviting family members and friends to your wedding may include some embarrassing moments, it's not the same as when your spouse tries to publicly humiliate you. Mandibragdon wrote about how she felt things were going sour quickly with her groom. She explained, "I knew it wouldn't work out during my own wedding when during the first dance, he started singing to me. But not in a romantic way — in an embarrassing way that was meant as a show for everyone watching."

After a couple is married, most people anticipate that the newlyweds will be enjoying some alone time---but not with different people. Rachela4ec63d286 spilled the beans on how one groom tried to use them to be on his worst behavior after his wedding. They wrote, "When after a wedding I attended, a lot of people got together at the hotel, and the groom knocked on my door and asked me to strip for him." That's truly some cringe-worthy stuff!
