Celebrities are just like us. The only difference is they live fabulous lives and have a few more zeroes on their bank account balances.

Okay, maybe they aren't much like the rest of us. But one similarity does exist: their propensity for falling in love with furry friends. It isn't all designer pets either, as lots of celebs have decided to adopt from shelters.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

We're starting things out strong with the biggest action star of the '80s, and former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Governator has various animals on his property, including his buddy Dutch, seen here.

Jonah Hill

The actor and director adopted Fig, a pittbull, in early 2021. He gave a shout-out to the animal rescue where he adopted Fig, saying he appreciates the work they do.

Dua Lipa

The singer and boyfriend Anwar Hadid adopted Dexter, an adorable black puppy, back in 2020.

Kaley Cuoco

The Flight Attendant star and husband Karl Cook took in Larry, a senior mastiff, last year. She got Larry in part because she'd lost her dog Norman, who'd been a steadfast companion for 14 years.

Taylor Swift

This list is very dog-heavy, so it's time to mix it up with Taylor Swift and her cats. It's well known that T-Swift is a cat person, and her Insta posts of her three cats — Benjamin Button, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey — are downright precious.

Dan Levy

After his star turn on Schitt's Creek, Dan Levy posted about his adoption experience with Redmond, a four-year-old who'd been adopted. "Finding him was the greatest thing that ever happened to me," wrote Levy.

Zac Efron

It seems that Zac Efron came through just in the nick of time when he adopted his doggo, Maca, who was on the verge of being put down. As the shelter notes, this is Maca's happily ever after.

Zooey Deschanel

The actress adopted Dot and her sister, Zelda, from a shelter way back in 2013. Back then, she called them the "apples of [her] eye."

Hilary Swank

She's known as someone who donates her time and resources to animal shelters, so it's no surprise that Hilary Swank has a whole menagerie of happy dogs.

Brooks Laich

He might not be as well known as these other celebs, but longtime hockey pro Brooks Laich is enjoying his retirement with a furry friend, a husky named Koda.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore has almost too many foster pets to count. She's taken in three cats along with two dogs, Douglas (seen here) and Lucy.

Luke Bryan

The country star and his wife Caroline Boyer adopted this sweet girl, Kimmie, from bad circumstances. Kimmie looks a bit nervous, but she's doing better now in her forever home.

Liev Schreiber

Actor and director Liev Schreiber took in two pups, Woodie and Willow, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. While he gave them both a good life, Willow has since passed away. In 2020, Schreiber added another dog — Scout — to the mix.

Justin Theroux

Justin Theroux may have starred in The Leftovers, but he wasn't about to leave this beautiful doggo, Kuma, out in the cold. Theroux says the put bull mix has helped him become a better person.

Chelsea Handler

This comedienne adopted a couple of chow-chows, named Bert and Bernice, back in 2018. Judging from the pics she shares, it seems that it's a match made in heaven.

Chris Evans

Lots of celebs meet their canine companions while they're shooting movies, and Evans is no exception. He met his rescue dog, Dodger, during a scene from Gifted that took place in an animal shelter.

Amanda Seyfried

The actress adopted Finn, an Australian Shepherd, while she was shooting the TV series Big Love. Finn is a social media star in his own right, as his Instagram account boasts an impressive 77,000 followers.

Liam Hemsworth

This Aussie heartthrob might be better known for adopting shelter dogs than he is for acting at this point. Hemsworth frequently shares pictures of the dogs he's adopted over the years on his Instagram.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston has been an outspoken advocate for rescue animals throughout her long career. On her Insta, you can see a few of the dogs she's adopted. Right now, she has three.

Ryan Reynolds

It turns out the guy who plays Deadpool is a total softie, as evidenced by adopting this adorable golden retriever mix. He wasn't planning on adopting the dog, but the two fell in love after a short walk.
