Here you are, Ryan Reynolds fans. At the line between being a normie fan vs a super fan. Will you cross that line by knowing all the facts on this list?
If you’re here, then you probably will. So buckle in, because there is a lot to know about this super interesting Hollywood star.
1. ‘Green Lantern’ Helped Him Get Over A Fear Of Flying

Well, at least Green Lantern was good for something .
Back before he made the movie that shall not be named, Ryan Reynolds had a bit of an issue with flying and airplanes.
Or, as he told Ann Curry from ‘The Today Show’:

“I have problems with airplanes. On the film, we were up on high-wires flying all the time, all over the place … It was really interesting and really terrifying at first.”
So how did he get over the fear? He thought of his nieces and nephews:

“I don’t mean to make it sound too altruistic, but my nieces and nephews were just so excited about this movie and I kept thinking about them getting to come see this film. You kind of get over all that crap… After the 17th, 18th time of doing it, you say, ‘Hey, this is actually a little bit of fun.'”
2. He Met His Wife, Blake Lively, On Set

Lively played Hal Jordan’s love interest in the movie.
And soon, movie romances turned to real romances, as the two started dating in 2011. Then, they were married in 2012.
3. He Once Failed A Very Important Class…

At least an important class if you’re going to be an actor.
Back in high school, Reynolds actually failed a drama class. Yes, one of the funniest actors of all time couldn’t pass drama.
4. Alanis Morrisette Wrote A Song About Him
Before he was in a storybook romance with Blake Lively , he actually dated a fellow Canadian! Alanis Morrisette.
However, once the two broke up, Alanis actually wrote a song about the actor.
The song was called “Torch”
And here is what the singer had to say about it:
“It was cathartic. Someone said very wisely to me the other day that catharsis doesn’t mean healing necessarily and I thought, ‘Damn! It’s true.'”
5. He’s Also Dated…

Besides Alanis Morrisette and Blake Lively , the superstar hunk has also dated (and/or married) superstars like Melissa Joan Hart, Traylor Howard, Kristen Johnson, Rachel Leigh Cook, Scarlett Johansson, and Agnes Fischer.
He even had a summer fling with Charlize Theron, apparently.
6. The Role He’s Always Wanted To Play

It’s not Hal Jordan/Green Lantern , it’s not Wade Wilson/Deadpool… it’s…
Kid Flash!
Apparently, Reynolds has been dying to play Kid Flash for years, and even almost did twice. But both projects were axed.
7. He Was Almost On ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’

He actually turned down the role of Xander Harris on Buffy The Vampire Slayer . Why?
“I love that show and I loved Joss Whedon, the creator of the show, but my biggest concern was that I didn’t want to play a guy in high school. I had just come out of high school and it was [expletive] awful.”
8. He Was Once “The Sexiest Man Alive”
And, in a way, he still kind of is (considering he is still a man, still alive and to be fair, very sexy by most people’s standards).
9. He Put On Bulk For A Movie

No, it wasn’t for Deadpool , Green Lantern , or any of the action movies he’s done , but actually Blade Trinity .
He actually gained 25 pounds of muscle for his role, and apparently it worked in his favor.
10. The Deadpool Comics Mention Him By Name

Check out these panels from “Cable & Deadpool” No. 2.
As you can see, Deadpool says he looks like Ryan Renolds (written wrong for legal reasons no doubt) mixed with a Shar-Pei!
11. He Was In A ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Movie

He actually played Seth , Sabrina’s crush who she finds out is kind of a jerk.
Actually, this is where he and Melissa Joan Hart met for the first time.
12. He Was Kicked Out Of School

And it’s for the most Ryan Reynolds thing ever (well, maybe a little more hardcore).
He was kicked out of school for stealing a car on April Fool’s Day. I bet Wade Wilson is very proud of him.
Here was the prank:

Reynolds and a friend had a teacher that they really hated.
So, they took his car and moved it around the block (which was only a little more than ten feet).
But the problem is, in Canada, if you move someone else’s car more than ten feet, then it’s considered a felony.

So there he was, kicked out of school with nothing to do… except become one of the world’s most recognized actors.
13. He Is Canadian
Play This, Canadians . In honor of our fellow countryman.
Yes, the famous actor is from that huge country north of the United States. He’s from Vancouver, which is in British Columbia.
He says it’s a big part of his character:

At least, the stereotypical Canadian politeness is (psh, try driving around in a big Canadian city):
“Generally I care for other people. I always say ‘excuse me,’ ‘thank you,’ and ‘I’m sorry.”
14. His Brothers

Mr. Reynolds is the youngest of four brothers. Four!
His brothers are not actors like he is, but they all decided to follow the same career path and join the police force!
His father was actually a Mountie (a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman), and obviously, his brothers followed in the same kind of footsteps.

Reynolds claims he would be a Mountie if he didn’t become an actor.
15. His First Role
Before he was Deadpool , even before he was Green Lantern, Ryan Reynolds starred as a snowflake in a fourth-grade play.
I wonder if any of his trademark sarcastic wit was used…
16. Math Troubles

When he was in the 12th grade (senior year) , Ryan Reynolds was in 10th Grade Math. According to him, his classmates looked at him as though to say:
“Do you know how to put your pants on?”
They thought he was stupid.
17. The Reason He Did ‘Green Lantern’

With the power of hindsight , a lot of people probably wonder why Ryan Reynolds even bothered to do the Green Lantern movie.
Well, it turns out he did it… for Deadpool .
You see, he really wanted to do a Deadpool movie, so when he was offerd the part, he had to make sure Fox would never do a ‘Deadpool’ movie.

They told him that they wouldn’t, and so, he went forth with the Green Lantern .
He actually wrote this letter to Fox:

“I’m gonna take this movie Green Lantern if you guys aren’t gonna make Deadpool . I’m at the altar, about to say ‘I do’ to somebody else, but tell me you want to spend the rest of your life with me, because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
18. How Did He Find Out About Deadpool?

Despite his name’s appearance in the comics, Ryan Reynolds didn’t know anything about the Merc With A Mouth until an executive saw him in Blade: Trinity .
He watched Reynolds’ performance and realized the actor would be perfect for Deadpool.
So he sent Reynolds a bunch of comics and Ryan, of course, fell in love with the character.

For 11 years, he was trying to make the Deadpool movie, and he finally got his wish.
Needless to say, it’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, so we are super thankful.
19. Social Media
Turns out, Ryan Reynolds didn’t have social media until a very important moment in his life came about. What was it? His wedding? The birth of his children?
No, he made them so he could promote Deadpool .
20. Before Dating Blake Lively
Before he and his now-wife Blake Lively were even dating, they went on a double date… where they weren’t each others dates.
Sucks for the people dating them at the time.
21. Anti-Paleo
There are some actors who cut out carbs completely, but not Ryan Reynolds.
He just never eats them after 8 if he needs to gain some muscle for a role.
In his own words:

“Never do any of that carve-starve crap.”
So you hear that, fitness experts in the world? Ryan Reynolds says we can eat all the carbs that we want!
