I’m just going to come right out and say it: I love Chris Hemsworth. What’s not to love? He’s talented, funny, and incredibly charismatic. If only he weren’t so damned ugly…
However, there’s a lot more to Chris than just an incredibly chiseled body and smoldering good looks.
Here are 10+ things fans didn’t know about Chris Hemsworth: God of Thunder (from Down Under).
Chris Hemsworth is one of Hollywood’s biggest (literally, he’s very tall and muscular) stars right now.
He found his footing thanks to his role as Thor in The Avengers and has been in the limelight ever since.
The Australian resident is living his best life with his wife Elsa and his children, and fans love to see what he’s up to on Instagram.
People just can’t get enough of him!
He’s hilarious, generous, and can always put a smile on our face.
So, because of this, it’s time for fans to learn a little more about the star that they love so much!
He’s an incredibly interesting person and, like us normal, mundane people, he has evolved and gone through a lot of struggles in his life.
1. The star of *Thor* is a talented guitarist and a pretty good singer.
Just look at that bravado! You can hear the rich timbre of his voice, feel Thor’s pain with every tortured chord struck.
Both Johnny Cash and Trent Reznor would be proud.
2. He had a variety of childhood nicknames that included “Kip” and “Hemsy.”

I’m pretty sure that kids stopped pretty abruptly once Chris crossed the 6-foot threshold .
But they are some pretty cute nicknames. I wonder if his parents or his brothers still call him that.
3. He has five different versions of Mjolnir (Thor’s Hammer) around his house.

Apparently Chris has a habit of lifting hammers from the set once filming has wrapped.
The actor even confessed to Jimmy Kimmel that he keeps a hammer in the bathroom .
“It’s next to the toilet, if you need some assistance,” said Hemsworth.
“Often people stay in there a little longer, and I think it’s because of the hammer,” he continued.
I can say with full confidence that I would definitely stay in there longer.
4. He almost became a member of the *X-Men*.
“I got very close to Gambit in the Wolverine ‘X-Men’ movies. At the time I was upset. I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor.”
5. Chris’ star crush is Robin Wright in *The Princess Bride*.

“She’s just so incredibly beautiful and confident and strong, and smart and witty. I love that movie.”
It certainly isn’t inconceivable to understand why Chris feels that way.
I don’t know, Chris, I kind of prefer Robin in the driver’s seat as opposed to being the damsel in distress…

Wouldn’t you agree?
Robin’s power and confidence as Claire Underwood is positively staggering. It’s too bad House of Cards couldn’t make it work with her as the lead.
6. Chris is fitness-obsessed! He’s even created his own app called *Centr*.

“I wanted to create some-thing that embodied the three main elements of healthy living —the movement, the nutrition, and the mindfulness—and present it in a way that’s entertaining, functional, and also accessible.”
7. Chris thinks his fellow Avenger, Mark Ruffalo, is incredibly funny.
Chris was playing a game with his fellow Marvel cast mates called “Most Likely To…” when Chris revealed that Mark was always making him laugh on set because he’d always be forgetting his lines.
8. Chris’ big break came when he played George Kirk in JJ Abrams’ *Star Trek* reboot.

I almost completely forgot that Chris was in Star Trek !
Granted, he didn’t have a lot of screen time, but the Aussie-born actor made the best with what he was given. His part as George Kirk was impactful and emotionally-driven.
Even though he is grateful for it, he actually turned down reappearing for the sequel.
“I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet,” he said . “I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.”
9. He helped Tom Holland land his role as *Spider-Man*.

“I mean, look, we worked on In the Heart of the Sea together, obviously, then through Avengers and as they were casting him for Spider-Man, I did what I could do and made a call.”
10. Chris is an amazing surfer.

This probably won’t come as much of a surprise. But Hemsworth isn’t what you’d call a “pleasure rider.”
His skills are on par with the great Kelly Slater , himself.
11. He was an Australian soap opera star before coming to America.

Everyone has to get their start somewhere, right? It only makes sense.
Chris appeared on a number of different soap operas for years before achieving success and notoriety in the United States.
But after leaving the soap *Home and Away*, he really struggled for a long time.
“I remember I had an audition right before Christmas one year, where things were not going good. I’d stopped getting callbacks, and I was getting worse feedback. I thought, ‘God, why did I do this?'”
12. He has a childlike sense of humor.
Chris is always joking around, both on and off the set.
His episode of Playground Insults with fellow Avenger Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) shows just how naturally witty and clever he really is.
13. Chris started acting to help his family financially.

“A big reason I started acting was because I loved film and TV, but it was like we had no money ,” Chris said in an interview with Variety .
“I wanted to pay off their house, initially. That was my sort of thing.”
14. Chris’ first job ever was cleaning out breast-pumps for a local pharmacy.
This may seem like a lie, but it is 100% true!
Chris admitted, while playing a game of True Confessions with Jimmy Fallon, that his first job involved cleaning out dried milk from used rented breast pumps!
15. Tom Cruise gave Hemsworth his current philosophy on film making.
“I asked Tom Cruise years ago what drove him to make certain decisions on films,” Hemsworth said. “He said, ‘I just want people to see my movies. I don’t want to put that much blood, sweat and tears into it, and have it come and go.'”
It was from that, that Hemsworth decided to adopt those teachings to his own life as he moved forward in his career.
“I just love the theatrical experience. I think there’s nothing quite like it, and the industry will change in a big way if we don’t get people to the cinema.”
16. He is constantly being rumored to play James Bond, but he actually wants someone else to play the iconic character.
“My vote would be Idris [Elba]. I think he’d give it a different sort of swagger, too, and each time someone new comes into the role, I think you’ve got to offer up something different.”
17. He almost quit *Ghosbusters*.

“The night before I was shooting, I almost pulled out. Three or four weeks prior, Paul said to me, ‘I’m going to write up the character. Don’t worry.'”
But not everything went his way.
“And then I got the script and nothing had changed.”

But he was then told that, through improvisation, he would be able to do a lot more with his character.
“I was really scared walking onto that set. I had no real plan, so I was just feeding off of them, and I just felt ridiculous. So I used that.”
18. Chris has a very real connection to Thor.
Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, owns one of the days of the week: Thursday.
Funnily enough, Chris Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 , which fell on a Thursday.
19. He didn’t like living in the United States.

“We’d leave the house and there would be six paparazzi out in front. In LA, more than anywhere else in the world, paparazzi are everywhere, 24/7. We felt suffocated. The agitation you feel from the paparazzi rippled in the house.”
He took his family and brought them back to Australia, which he much prefers.

“It’s just a quiet little surf town with a lot of farming, an hour and a half outside of Melbourne. There are other things in my life now – family, kids.”
