Alright, let’s just get this out of the way: Monstera plants are not pet-safe.
I know. I’m sad, too. But there are so many other plants out there to choose from, and honestly? So many of them are cuter than Monsteras are. There, I said it.

Tropical Bromeliad.
I just picked one of these up at Ikea specifically because they’re safe for my cat to chomp on if he gets to it. And trust and believe, he will get to it.
Parlor Palm.
Not only are these palms easy af to take care of, they’re totally safe for cats and dogs. Adding tropical flair to your home and keeping your pets safe? That’s the tea.
Bird’s Nest Fern.
Not all ferns are pet-friendly, but the Bird’s Nest Fern is. It thrives in low light and doesn’t need a lot of maintenance! It does prefer humidity, just a head’s up.
Christmas Cactus.
I mean, we have to have a cactus on this list! The Christmas Cactus has a beautiful flowering element in addition to lots of different arms of cactus leaves.
Literally most air plants.
I mean, the truth of the matter is that most air plants are totally safe for cats and dogs. You’ll want to google the specific name just to double-check, but you should still be fine with almost all of them.
Haworthia Zebra.
How cute is she, though? This striped succulent is safe for your pets if they get into it, but that would definitely suck for them. They’re so pointy!
African Violet.
Time to get some flowers up in here! The African Violet comes in a whole range of colors to fit your aesthetic. I’m partial to the purple ones, though.
Hibiscus.
This is my favorite flower! This tropical flower is mostly pet safe, except for one: the Rose of Sharon, aka the Chinese Hibiscus. Otherwise, you’re good to go!
Most succulents.
Like air plants, most succulents are pretty safe for your pets. Here’s what to avoid: Aloe Vera, Pencil Cactus, Mother of Millions, Jade, and the Silver Dollar. Everything else, you should be good to go!
American Baby Rubber Plant.
The standard rubber plant is toxic to animals, but the American version isn’t! Just make sure that you have the American one. Also, it’s so cute and I love it.
Bamboo Palm.
More palms! There can never be too many, and if you disagree…I am not interested. This plant would look amazing in your home. I just know it.
Cast Iron Plant.
Man, I love a good Cast Iron Plant. It’s beautiful, it’s safe for your pets, and it’s easy to take care of. What more do you need to know? Go get one!
Spider plant.
You know a cat is going to be all over this one. Spider plants actually have a hallucinogenic effect on cats, so while it’s safe for them to eat, they may still barf if they chomp on it.
Burro’s Tail.
Isn’t this plant totally unique-looking? It’s almost like a string of hearts, but… fat. And thus, adorable. These are great in hanging pots, so you probably won’t have to worry about pet interaction at all!
