Johnny Depp is warning his fans against fake social media accounts that are pretending to be him. The Sherlock Gnomes star took to his Instagram account to address his dedicated following that people are pretending to be himself, and those he works with, online.
As fans of the 59-year-old know, Johnny wasn’t big into social media until 2020, when he first got Instagram and now, most recently, the actor joined TikTok.

Johnny Depp has only been on social media for two years but has already amassed one of the largest social platform followings in Hollywood.
To be fair, this is hardly surprising considering the cult-like following Johnny has acquired since his rise to fame in the ’80s.
Recently, the actor announced he had joined TikTok For his first, and so far only post to the platform, Johnny thanked his supporters with a video montage.
“To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. We did the right thing together, all because you cared,” he captioned the video. “And now, we will all move forward together. You are, as always, my employers and once again I am whittled down to no way to say thank you, other than just by saying thank you. So, thank you.
However, it seems that Johnny broadening his social media presence may have backfired.
Recently, the Mortdecai star took to Instagram to address the concerning amount of fake accounts that have popped up recently. The accounts are claiming to be Johnny and some are trying to take advantage of fans.
“I’ve been made aware that there are fake accounts pretending to be me or people working with me,” the actor began under the Instagram Story highlight he titled “PSA.”
“I do not have any private or side accounts on any platforms. These are the only pages run by me and my team where we share updates and communicate,” Johnny explained.
“I ask that you remain cautious as it seems these fake accounts can be relentless. My team is working to combat the problem,” he continued.
“Thank you for your continued support and for making me aware of this issue!,” he wrote before ending off the PSA with, “Love & respect, JD X.”
Note to self — a celebrity will not be reaching out to you specifically from a non-verified social media account, so don’t fall for it, friends!
