Take Your Pantry From Cluttered To Organized In 12 Easy Steps!

Diply 19 Feb 2016

Most people's pantries are often ignored and neglected when it comes to organization. It's so easy to just close the pantry doors and pretend that the clutter and chaos simply isn't there (outta sight, outta mind, right?). It doesn't have to be this way! An organized pantry will contribute to a healthier, cleaner kitchen, and will make cooking easy since you won't be scrambling to find ingredients.

DIY blogger Emily from Decorchick! recently transformed her pantry using a common kitchen tool. Take a look at how a few simple changes completely upgraded her pantry. What do you think of this pantry transformation? Share your kitchen organization tips with us!

1. Before...

It's pretty easy to see why this pantry needed a makeover. Lots of clutter and overflowing shelves would make it a nightmare to try and find anything. Time for an overhaul!

2. Not a pretty pantry

The fact that so many boxes were piled on the floor should have been reason enough to give this pantry a makeover a long time ago. Food should not be stored on the floor!

3. Time to clear everything out

The first step in this makeover is to clear out everything — and we mean EVERYTHING — from the pantry. The organizing can begin now. Take this opportunity to check the Best Before dates on some items and toss anything that has expired. You'll be surprised by how much this will cut down on your work later.

Meet paintable wallpaper. This textured wall covering will add some much-needed ambiance to any pantry and only costs about $15 a roll from your local hardware store. You can paint it any color you like, but Emily opted for keeping it white, and then did small touch-ups to the shelves with some paint.

Here's a look at the pantry with all the paintable wallpaper. You can already see how much of a difference it made! The shelves look like something out of a French café and are much more professional-looking than bare, white walls.

Emily's secret organizational tool? A Lazy Susan. This kitchen cupboard organizer isn't just great for decorating cakes or passing food at the table: wait until you see how Emily installed them in her pantry for extra storage and easy access to ingredients. Emily's dad custom made these for her, but a regular Lazy Susan would work, too.

7. A little muscle should do the trick

Emily drilled her custom Lazy Susans directly into the shelf, so they would become a permanent feature of her pantry, but strategically placing Lazy Susans in your pantry and around the home doesn't necessarily mean they have to stay there forever. You can put these on any shelf or around the kitchen, depending on your storage needs.

Besides upgrading her shelves, Emily also tweaked her storage in the pantry. These large glass jars, which can be purchased at any discount store, are perfect for storing dry goods like flour and cookies. The chalkboard labels are a versatile option that can be changed depending on what's in the jar.

Clear cereal containers are another easy and visible way to store dry goods in your pantry. When everything has a place and can be seen, it is more likely to get used, cutting down on clutter.
