Dr. Pepper Is Releasing A Super Sweet Limited Edition Dark Berry Flavor

It always seems like such a tease when food and beverage companies release a limited edition of some exciting new flavor. Sure, it's not hard to understand that they need to test whether people like their products before they commit to a full release.

But still, most of us won't get a chance to taste something that sounds amazing and those that do will have to wait before they can get more.

Fortunately, if Dr. Pepper's mysterious announcement means what we think it does, we may not have to wait long.

On April 1, Dr. Pepper posted this image on their Instagram and said that date seems "important."

The safe assumption would be that they're looking to unveil a new flavor, but the color of the image isn't really a clue. After all, cherry Dr. Pepper already exists.

The timing of this announcement was also kind of odd as it was the one day where people are least likely to believe any public statement.

However, as Delish reported, some folks had reason to believe that this wasn't an elaborate April Fool's joke.

That's because people throughout the country noticed a new flavor had suddenly popped up in a few states.

And although its unclear what kind of berries went into this dark berry flavor, it was apparently a cause to forgo their traditional red packaging for this dark blue label.

And yes, it appears to be a tie-in for the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

This film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, seems to find the webslinger deep in a crisis in London and is supposed to hit theaters on July 5.

This likely explains why the new flavor was featured at the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention.

There, a few comic fans got to try the dark berry flavor over the weekend and it seems that they'll have another chance as soon as May hits.

Of course, this brings us to the big question: How does dark berry Dr. Pepper taste?

Word from the convention was that it was pretty refreshing, but be prepared for some sweetness.

So why did Dr. Pepper announce this in such a mysterious and coy way?

Well, it is true that some of the packaging folks have spotted in the wild features the villain Mysterio, so they're probably getting into the spirit of the adventures to come.
