15 Facts About 'Schitt's Creek' That Are Simply The Best

Schitt's Creek was one of the most celebrated and beloved TV shows of its generation. Over the course of the series' six-season-long run, it captivated minds and warmed the hearts of fans and critics alike.

As sad as it is to say, it's been nearly two years since the final episode aired. So for a little nostalgia for nostalgia's sake — here are 15 facts about Schitt's Creek I just absolutely adore.

Moira Rose's appearance is loosely based on Daphne Guinness.

CBC

As the name suggests, Daphne is the heiress to the Guinness brewing family. She, just like Moira, has become revered for her eclectic and quite frankly — her far-out sense of dress and fashion.

Alexis says "David" more than any other word.

CBC

Alexis' most quotable catchphrase has always been "Ew David!" despite the fact that she only says it three times throughout the entire series. On the other hand, she says the word "David" over 220 times.

The CBC set up a faux Twitter account for Interflix.

Fans of the show will no doubt recall that Interflix was the streaming company that saved Moira's ill-fated return to the big screen, The Crows Have Eyes 3: The Crowening. You can watch the trailer for the film below.

The town of Schitt's Creek is a real place...sort of.

True, there is no such place as Schitt's Creek, but the town where the show was filmed most certainly does exist. The real Schitt's Creek is actually called Goodwood, Ontario, and it's home to just over 600 residents.

Moira Rose has more than 100 wigs.

That's right, Catherine O'Hara dawned 100 different wigs to help complete the character of Moira Rose. Catherine even selected some of them herself, along with Dan Levy and other prop directors on set.

Kim Basinger and 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' served as the show's inspiration.

Dan is a big fan of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and wanted to explore a "what if?" scenario wherein they lost their fortune. He was also inspired by the true story of how Kim Basinger bought an abandoned ghost town in the late '80s.

Each cast member who played in the softball game has their own baseball card.

These would all be cherished additions to any collection, but I think the clear-cut winner is David's card. That face he's making just screams "I don't want to be here!"

Believe it or not, Moira's vocabulary all checks out.

You'd be forgiven for presuming that some of Moira's more verbose vocabulary choices are completely made up. However, almost all of the words she uses are, in fact, real — including "Pettifogging" and "Chanteuse."

Dan Levy enjoyed torturing his father throughout the series.

CBC

Several of the show's storylines were designed to push Eugene Levy to his breaking point. The most infamous instance occurred in Season 1's "The Drip," wherein a leaky pipe drips brown water all over Johnny Rose's head.

Chris Elliot wears a fake beer belly.

In Season 1, Chris simply stuffed a pillow under his shirt to give Roland his signature beer belly. From Season 2 onward, he had a prosthetic belly specially designed for him by the prop masters.

Eugene Levy and Noah Reid secretly streamed a Blue Jays game during a promotional shoot.

Back in 2015, the Toronto Blue Jays were making a run for the playoffs — the likes of which hadn't been seen since the team won back-to-back World Series in '92/'93. Being the diehard Jays fan that he is, Eugene found ways to make it work.

You can visit the spot where David and Patrick got engaged.

The spot where David and Patrick got engaged is known as Rattlesnake Point. It's a conservation area just outside of Toronto that's renowned for its ancient cedars and scenic beauty.

Dan Levy was committed to getting the perfect shot for his slide into home plate.

So dedicated, in fact, that he had to perform more than 100 takes before he and the film crew had the perfect shot. I can only imagine how sore Dan must have been the following morning.

Noah Reid made it into the Top 10 Singles chart for iTunes Canada.

It's not hard to imagine why, either. Noah's heartfelt rendition of the classic Tina Turner lovesong is one of the standout moments of the entire series. I defy anyone to watch that scene and not get teary-eyed.

Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy go way back.

CBC

Catherine and Eugene met back when they were both members of the famed Second City improv troupe. They've also appeared alongside one another in such films as A Mighty Wind and Best in Show.
