15 Divisive Unpopular Opinions People Have

We all have strong opinions that some find unpopular. Case and point, I believe that The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is one of the better reality TV shows out there,

Below is a collection of other strong, divisive, and yes — unpopular opinions shared by the internet at large. Have a look and see what side of the fence you fall on.

Free will, as we've come to know it, is just an illusion.

"People get all bent out of shape when I tell them they have no free will. Everything they do is a product of chemical reactions and electrical impulses." - Reddit u/desimusxvii

"Patriotism is stupid and dangerous." - Reddit u/kasdaye

I don't know if I'd go as far as to call patriotism stupid, but I can see where this user is coming from. Blind devotion to anything, whether it be a country or creed, should never go unchecked.

Pre-requisite education practices should not exist.

"Required high school education should be thrown out the window. If a student is planning on a blue collar[sic] career after the eighth grade, he should spend two years in a technical school and one year[sic] apprenticeship and then given certifications to begin his career." - Reddit u/deleted

"Kids are not as amazing as people make them out to be." - Reddit u/A-punk

Why are parents always so shocked when you tell them that you don't want to have kids? You'd think that sleeping-in, sex, and a life of travel would kind of speak for themselves, yet some always seem to need a reminder.

Serving your country shouldn't be a choice.

Unsplash | Diego González

"All citizens should serve a minimum amount of hours helping out their county that would equal the span of working full time for two years. That means working in the Peace Corps, the military, or the local VFW helping out, the local food bank, the blood donation center, etc." - Reddit u/unknown

It's a long way to the top if you wanna Rock n' Roll.

"AC/DC is an extremely overrated band. They're basically a one-hit-wonder that recorded lots of covers of their only song," argues Reddit user Megatron_McLargeHuge.

Humanity isn't as "good" as we'd like to believe.

According to this since-deleted Reddit comment, "Most people are, at heart, stupid, selfish, and irrational creatures who are just one charismatic leader away from fascism."

Geez, why don't you tell us how you really feel?

Voting should be a privilege afforded to those who have earned the right.

"The uninformed, uneducated, ignorant masses should not have an equal vote. Basically, democracy isn't the best form of government," according to Reddit user mhawk.

When everyone speaks, no one is heard.

Partisan politics do more harm than good.

Unsplash | Maria Oswalt

"The idea of someone being a liberal or a conservative is wrong. Everyone falls somewhere in between. Also, if you go too far left, you end up on the right, and vice-versa." - Reddit u/nykzero

"Sports are boring."

Just what sports are you talking about, exactly? If you mean sports like golf, then I totally agree. But who on earth could sit down to watch a football game and find anything boring about it whatsoever?

Ketchup isn't the best condiment for French fries.

Unsplash | K8

"I prefer mayonnaise on my french fries over than[sic] ketchup. I always get a WTF look from the people I'm eating with when I do so. Their loss. It's awesome." - Reddit u/Baeocystin

"Not all babies are cute." - Reddit u/1n1billionAZNsay

Unsplash | Filip Mroz

I would even take this a step farther and assert that most babies aren't cute. They look alien, like Benjamin Button aging in reverse. You might think your baby is cute, but believe me when I say no one else does.

Overpopulation is a myth.

Unsplash | Dan Freeman

"I don't believe that the world is overpopulated. There are enough resources, and there is enough food. The reason some people are dirt-poor and starving is a result of very complex economic, political, historical, and social realities." - Reddit u/deleted

"It isn't your responsibility to have to tip and pay your waiter/waitress." - Reddit u/

Most provinces and states have aligned server's wage with that of the minimum wage, so why should we still be expected to tip out a minimum of 15% on a bill? It's absolutely ridiculous

Normal, everyday citizens shouldn't be allowed to own firearms.

"I hate guns and I think people shouldn't have such easy access[sic] to them. I was surprised to find out this is a very unpopular opinion on Reddit." - Reddit u/rbbdrooger
