20 Bad Design Choices We Can't Help But Laugh At

I honestly can't help but love bad designs. Sure, they're confusing on so many different levels. But where else are you going to find this kind of quality comedy content?

If anything, bad designs are just so absurd that you can't help but laugh. Though, for people who have to live with them, it might be a totally different story...

This design makes less and less sense the more you look at it.

I'm guessing that the three (Chicago mix?) popcorn kernels are supposed to be a heart, but that deep dish pizza slice is... kind of out of place. Sure, it's supposed to be things that represent Chicago, but there's no cohesion.

Also, these are really weird things to put on a tin of mints.

You can tell where they got the pictures in these textbooks from.

Those are... those are video thumbnails. They didn't even bother to take a screenshot of the videos while they were playing. And you know those books probably cost, like, $200 each too.

Bad translation, or incomplete instructions?

I'm actually having a hard time telling if they meant to add more (or different) instructions, or if they just translated them to English really badly. Either way, they aren't going to be of much help to anyone.

Hold up, where's the front door?

It took me a second to find it, but it's off to the left of the steps. Why anyone would do something like this is beyond me, but hey. It's at least really funny to look at.

This transition isn't a safety hazard at all!

It's not an if, it's a when with this tripping hazard. You'd be better off having a whole step there, instead of this whatever this is. Just looking at it is making my poor toes hurt.

I... I don't like what's happening here.

This strange clipart hospital makes it kind of look like that one kid is... floating off to heaven? Sure, we all die someday, but this is really strange imagery to gear towards kids.

The more you look at these playing cards, the worse they are.

At first, you think that each suit has its own distinct color, which would be a little strange, but still fine. But no. It looks like there's no rhyme or reason for why each card is the color it is. This is honestly such a mess.

Red means off, green means on, apparently.

Turns out we've been doing it wrong this whole time, folks. Did you think green meant on? Because according to this remote, it means off, and red means on! Oh yeah, totally not confusing at all!

"Newly constructed apartments: can’t open this drawer fully unless the oven door is open."

I swear, some people really don't know how to design kitchens. You need to take everything into account, including how close a drawer is to the stove, or to the dishwasher or something. These things can be avoided.

I wouldn't even want to try climbing these stairs.

I looks like they just kind of slapped a ramp off to the side of this set of steps, which throws the whole thing off. Those stairs look dangerous, but that ramp looks even worse. Proceed with caution.

This is borderline unreadable.

It looks like some very smart person out there decided to print a double-sided sign on printer paper and post it on glass, which has light shining through it. Which means, even though this sign looks important, you can't actually read it.

It took a second, but it looks like it says, "PLEASE ensure the door closes behind you."

That doesn't seem very safe...

I guess this is more of someone installing a unit poorly than a bad design choice, but you know what? It was still a choice that someone made. And it looks like a major safety hazard either way.

When in doubt, use Comic Sans!

Ah, the classic bad design font. You know, Comic Sans gets dunked on all the time for being such an ugly font.

And we're right to think so, of course. It's just so uninspired. Do better, people!

"Reddit’s new 'Create Post' button blocks the unmute button in the new video player."

That's a definite design oversight, though it could just be a technical glitch? Either way, it's pretty dang annoying, that's for sure.

I'm sure it won't stay like that forever, though.

"Instagram ads presents its newest outfit: 'EXIT WOUND.'"

Yeah... that's pretty gnarly. According to the ad description, it's supposed to be some kind of feather pattern? Even though it looks more like flesh? They should've marketed it as a Halloween costume idea instead.

Can you tell what number that's supposed to be?

Depending on how you look at it, this could be 6869, or 6989. Which are two very different street addresses. Talk about confusing.

Though, if you look closely at the 8, it looks slightly smaller on the left. So I think the number is supposed to be 6869.

Not every bathroom needs a corner toilet...

Corner toilets may be super awesome, but it's very clear that not every bathroom can handle one. This is just... well, it's just plain dumb is what it is. Not very well thought out at all.

Clothes closet? Linen closet? Broom closet?

I'd say that this is, in fact, a broom closet, but I don't know of any brooms that could actually fit in there. It's a pretty tiny space. Anything you put in there might get jammed, never to come out again.

"I don’t know what to say about how crappy this design is."

This is, like, a drawer that can't open because the oven door is in the way, but worse. So much worse. It's hard to believe somebody consciously decided to put these cupboards together. They really thought they did something here, huh?

Okay, I have to admit that this one is bad *and* annoying.

As far as I know, there's no reason for the cooktop to not be centered with the oven. Which means someone messed up badly. Not to mention it's in a way that's just really annoying to look at.
