20 Pics As Cool As That '80s Heartthrob Was Before He Got Problematic

Why is it that the things that were cool in your childhood never seem to retain their coolness? I mean, tastes change, and sometimes something that was cool becomes problematic.

In any event, we can't make certain things cool again. But one thing's for certain: everything in this list is cool, and likely has some cool staying power, too.

"Cool statue in the middle of nowhere right off Route 66."

I like that the photographer simply found a cool statue, snapped a pic, and uploaded it with minimal context. No need to parse why there's a cool statue in the middle of nowhere. Just enjoy it.

"My double and triple apples."

These apples have taken on the bulbous shapes usually associated with peppers. They do make me mildly concerned that the tree has some kind of weird mutation that causes its apples to be less, well, apple-like.

"Old cars becoming the river bank."

Reddit | Smartyandfarty

I'm not sure whether this was an intentional effort to turn old junk into a seawall or sorts, or if it happened naturally. Either way, it's very cool, and will provide future explorers with an interesting find.

"This cloud shaped like a great white shark."

Reddit | TerminallyWell

This is just how I like my sharks: not in the water, not threatening, and not even real. It's pretty incredible how much it resembles a shark, right down to the eye and teeth.

"My neighbor started a dog stick library."

Reddit | doberman8

Dog people know that it isn't hard to find a good stick while on a walk. Still though, this unique little library seems to have a curated selection of some of the best sticks in the neighborhood.

"Vein finder we use in the hospital to place IVs in our 'hard stick' patients."

Reddit | carrykitty

It makes sense that a device like this exists, but it's still super cool to see it in action. It's basically like having x-ray vision.

"Someone put googly eyes on a gas pump."

Honestly, I'd rather put the googly eyes on the gas tank, so it looks like it's drinking. When they're on the pump, it looks like the pump is, like, vomiting into the tank.

"A napkin from a military pack."

Reddit | stefans03

I'm glad they put the 'do not eat' instruction on there. Otherwise, you'd probably have a decent number of soldiers inadvertently eating tightly compressed napkins, which is something that nobody should have to deal with.

"This pre-popped popcorn in a cinema storage room ready for sale."

Reddit | ScallyTo

While it's a bit disappointing that the cinema isn't popping its popcorn the old-fashioned way, I do find the sight of these big popcorn cubes to be immensely satisfying.

"The difference between ground beef (on the right) and the liquid attractant that comes with the hornet trap (on the left)."

Reddit | lesnod

You heard it here first, folks: if you're trying to attract wasps, don't buy any fancy compound from the store. Just give them lots of meat.

"This real triceratops skull in mid processing. Denver Science Museum."

It's positively mind-blowing to see something that's so incredibly old. Like, this thing walked the earth so long ago that it's basically impossible to fathom how much time has passed.

"This shark tooth I found on the beach."

Reddit | TinkTink3

Remember the shark cloud earlier? Yeah, this is why I avoid the oceans. Imagine a mouthful of these big, sharp chompers ripping into you while you're trying to go for a nice, relaxing swim.

"This braided grass on my campus."

Reddit | parcel_of_papers

Why is this grass braided? Who braided it? What will happen as it grows? I don't have the answer to any of these questions, so all we can really do is appreciate the fact that it's braided.

"I relocated a spider (with its web!) to inside near my worm bin which became infested with little flies."

Reddit | stablefish

Spiders are awesome helpers to have around the house. I love the idea of strategically deploying a trusted spider to a problem area.

"My new TV remote is solar powered."

Reddit | cloud9flyerr

I still geek out over the idea of a Casio digital watch from the '80s that runs off solar power, so this photo is weirdly fascinating to me. I wish more stuff ran on solar.

"Pulled the card quickly to her face right as I took a photo resulting in capturing both."

Reddit | nswj3

I'm not sure how to explain the shutter shenanigans that make a photo like this possible, but in any event, it's a super cool effect.

"There is a tiny Darth Vader carved in stone on National Cathedral in Washington, DC."

Reddit | ThanHowWhy

I had to figure out how Darth Vader found himself on the side of an old cathedral. Here's your answer. Also, fun fact, it's officially known as a 'grotesque'.

"I saw some ants carrying a glove up a lamp."

Reddit | ri4nn3

We could all take a lesson from ants when it comes to teamwork. Some humans would fail at the task of working with others to move a rubber glove.

"Fractured my glass case but the RGB fans turn it into a light show."

Reddit | TYV_

I'm getting some real vaporwave vibes from this. I love anything that juxtaposes shimmery, rainbow-y colors against a pitch black background, so this is right up my alley.

"My shadow being cast from flashing police lights behind me."

Reddit | SomeoneFromGalar

I'm assuming the police car was just passing by and not actively arresting the photographer. Well, either way, it isn't our problem, so we can just appreciate how the photo turned out.
