20 Crazy Ways People Have Turned Childhood Faves Into Nightmare Fuel

Have a favorite thing from your childhood? Most, if not all of us do. And chances are, that fave of yours is something cute and/or cuddly.

Because we can't have nice things, some people have taken it upon themselves to ruin our childhoods by turning our cute and lovable characters into pure nightmare fuel. And a lot of the times, this can happen in some seriously unexpected ways.

This Furby/Ken doll hybrid that has the best of both worlds.

Okay, maybe Furbies were kind of creepy back then. But they weren't as creepy as this abomination is. I've heard of long Furbies (which are more on the weird side than the creepy side), but not this. Please, never this.

Sonic: The man behind the mask.

Remember when they came out with that Sonic the Hedgehog movie and they made him look weirdly terrifying? Yeah, this is somehow creepier than that. Maybe it's the fact that the mask itself is unsettling and much too big for the Sonic plush, but, uh, yeah.

There's something off about this Easter Bunny playing card.

When you think about the fact that the Easter Bunny is supposed to come to your house in the middle of the night, sneak chocolate eggs into random places, and then leave, he's actually kind of creepy. And man, this card is not helping.

This... dog (?) has a pretty intense stare.

I really don't like the way this dog is looking at the camera. It just seems too self-aware. And pups are supposed to be lovable, not this level of intimidating. Hopefully it's just edited in a weird way, because I couldn't handle it if that was my dog.

"My friend found this childhood pic of himself..."

This giant blob of an Elmo costume just ain't it, chief. It's creepy in so many different ways. It barely even looks like the real deal, which just makes it even worse. In fact, the costume is probably cursed or something.

Halloween costumes really have changed, haven't they?

Nowadays, Halloween costumes are pretty tame, especially compared to how they looked a century ago. Seriously, I know that the name of the game is getting scared, but these costumes take it to a whole other level. They'd give me nightmares, even as an adult!

This Peppa Pig pumpkin kit that looks more like a crime scene.

Technically, Peppa Pig wasn't part of our childhoods, but if you have kids, you've probably seen the show at least a few times. And it still stands that this kit looks more like dismembered body parts than it does something fun and kid-friendly.

"My daughter's handmade mask for Halloween this year. It was cute before the red paint and smiley face."

I'm guessing that the goal here wasn't to make a cute, cuddly bunny mask. No matter how old you get, you'd probably still find someone standing around outside wearing something like this to be absolutely terrifying. But with Halloween closing in on us, 'tis the season.

So, clown motels are a thing now?

Most of us probably had coulrophobia (fear of clowns) as kids. Some of us may still have it. But people out there actually like clowns, for whatever reason.

Still, I don't think they'd be stopping to sleep at this motel. It just has a bad vibe.

"This Mitzi Mozzarella animatronic in the basement of Creative Engineering Inc."

There's no such thing as an animatronic that isn't creepy. Like, I dare you to find one that doesn't look like the stuff of nightmares. Why they were ever big in the party restaurant scene, we may never know.

"This abandoned 'Studio C' Chuck E. Cheese that was left to rot in a landfill."

Just when you thought animatronics couldn't get any creepier. This looks like the kind of thing you'd see in the opening scene for a horror movie. Just so strange, creepy, and cursed all at the same time.

Makes me never want to step foot into a Chuck E. Cheese again.

Whatever this thing is, it doesn't look very safe for kids.

Remember when stuffed animals and teddy bears looked cute and cuddly? That's not to say that none of them looked creepy, even for the time. But this one is just... I don't know how to describe it. It's like this thing is staring into my soul.

"This hand puppet my wife made for our 2-year-old toddler.

I'm kind of curious about what this would look like if it was actually on someone's hand. Would it be creepier? Less creepy somehow? Either way, it looks like the kind of thing that would give a toddler nightmares for days.

Scooby Doo, except not really.

Face Swap apps tend to make people look weird and creepy. So one could assume that it would do the same thing to cartoon characters. We didn't need to see this to know that. And yet, it's here, and there's no way to un-see it.

"The Official Ronald McDonald Watch (Found at an Antique Shop Near Bishop, CA)."

Ronald McDonald may not be as prominent as he once was, but I'm sure a lot of us remember him being around, both in commercials and in actual McDonald's locations. But, uh, don't remember him looking this creepy. Even for a clown, this is ridiculous!

When you play so much Super Mario, he starts showing up in real life.

I'm not sure if it's the balloon itself or the lighting, but this is one creepy shot. Something about Mario being so life-sized is just making this whole thing so much worse. I think it might be time to put him out of his misery.

The way Tigger is tied up to this tree is awfully suspicious.

It would take, like, an unnecessary amount of effort to put all this together. Putting the straw in the onesie, getting all of those Winnie the Pooh character plushies and putting it on, the Tigger mask, tying it to a tree... it makes you wonder what secrets it could hold.

"Found this photo on a recent visit to an antique shop."

The Mickey Mouse masks on the kids is creepy enough, but the background is stealing the show. Is... is that car on fire? Because it looks like it's on fire, and I don't know how to feel about that.

Just... why would anyone do this?

This toothy stuffed animal.

Back in my day, teddy bears didn't have so many teeth. Or at the very least, they didn't have realistic, human-looking teeth. It feels like this thing could come to life and bite you at any second, and that's enough to make it way too scary for me.

"This giant advertisement for an upcoming ride."

It's not just the fact that all the passengers on this ride are clearly CGI characters. It's also the fact that they have such vacant expressions on their face. It feels like this whole scene is some kind of social simulation. Or, maybe we're the simulation...
