People Were Fascinated By These 20 Brilliant Ideas

There are literally so many cool ideas out there that will definitely have you wondering, "Why didn't I think of that?" Like seriously, the world if full of amazing ideas, if you know where to look.

And luckily for us, people love to share these kinds of things online. So check out these brilliant ideas that had people from all over losing their minds.

"Solar panels being integrated into canals in India giving us solar canals. It helps with evaporative losses, doesn't use extra land and keeps solar panels cooler."

Now that's a solid idea. Solar panels are so incredibly useful, but they do tend to take up a good deal of space. Having them on top of canals like this would solve so many problems, and it would also add an additional source of energy. Amazing!

"Beijing subway allows riders to pay with plastic bottles, a good way to re-cycle them."

This idea is interesting, to say the least. It would definitely cut back on the amount of plastic bottles that are just thrown about. Seriously, there are so many public places filled with bottles that people have left behind because they didn't want to throw them away.

"The way this person carries around the duck...."

This is definitely the only way to travel. With a backpack that's fitted to carry a duck (and a duck as well, of course). The little bird is safe and protected, but there are also air holes that allow it to breathe, and what looks like a cloth to keep the bottom of the bag clean.

"First 3D printed residential home in Germany."

I...didn't know that you could 3D print an entire house. That's probably the most amazing thing ever. I wonder if that kind of technology could help create homes for those in need.

Though, to be completely honest, the 3D printed house looks pretty out of place in that neighborhood.

"This Is How Brick Streets Are Laid In The Netherlands."

Man, I could really use one of these to redo my patio! It looks like it would make laying interlocking bricks so much quicker and easier, and we all know how important convenience is.

I wonder if they have machines like this one in other countries...

"Long walkway covered in translucent umbrellas in Moominvalley Park, Saitama Prefecture, Japan."

Okay, not only is this so pretty (!!!), but it's such a cool idea, too. The fact that the umbrellas are translucent like this really add to the overall design. But they'll also help keep people dry as they walk down the path. What a cool place to visit, rain or shine.

"I got a warning for leaving my laptop unattended in the library."

I've heard stories of people getting their laptops stolen from a public library. You just need to be away from your stuff for a couple of minutes for someone to come by and take it.

These signs are great because they'll (hopefully) remind people to keep an eye on their stuff.

"My hotel phone in Iceland has a special button that will wake you up if there are northern lights in the sky."

If I ever went to Iceland (or any place where you can see the Northern Lights), I would want one of these alarms. This is, like, one of the most wondrous natural phenomena in the world, so of course everyone should get a chance to see it.

"An old TV repurposed into a cat bed for my cat’s birthday."

Vintage TVs are pretty useless nowadays, even if they look super nice. They probably won't work, and even if they do, it's not like you can watch a whole lot on them. But every cat needs at least six beds, so making one out of an old TV is definitely the way to go.

"The new house my parents bought has a secret room hidden under the stairs."

I'm not actually sure if this is brilliant, or just terrifying (or both, somehow). A hidden staircase is kind of awesome. You know, unless there's a terrifying monster or a serial killer hiding down there. But that's probably not going to happen. Right?

"The exterior of the old library inside the new library."

This is one way to add on to an old building that I never really thought of. This is sooo cool, because it allows the library to be bigger and hold more books, but it doesn't take away from the original design.

A great way to preserve a little bit of history!

"The security hut at the Igloo factory is an Igloo cooler."

I mean, what other design would you use for a building at the Igloo factory? Since they make those exact coolers, it's kind of like a bit of advertising. And it would be kind of fun to visit. You know, if you're into factory tours and stuff like that.

"I wanted natural light in a basement that has no windows. Paid $10 for two old windows. Painted them, frosted the glass, installed them into my wall with 12” LED flat panel lights behind them. Now it’s always 2pm at the basement bar."

The worst thing about basements is the fact that they're almost always so dark (and the bugs...but the darkness is probably worse).

This is such a cool idea because, instead of spending money to put windows in (which may not even be possible), this person just made some glass panels look like windows, which is working out just fine.

"Vilnius has put up a statue that offers a 'portal' to the Polish city of Lublin, allowing people to see each other in real time."

This is so amazing! Imagine looking at a statue and being able to see people in a completely different city. Almost like having a portal right there. It's like magic, only it's real. I continue to be impressed by technology every single day.

"Some drugstores in the Czech Republic introduced shampoo and shower gel filling machines."

"Customers can refill their empty bottles with various products so they don't have to buy a new one every time."

That would definitely cut back on plastic bottle waste. In fact, it would be really cool if more things were sold like this, where we just brought our own containers.

"Swap your boring lawn grass with red creeping thyme, grows 3 inch tall max, requires no mowing, lovely lemony scent, can repel mosquitoes, grows all year long, better for local biodiversity."

I never really understood why every lawn had to have grass. You have to mow it, maintain it, put new seeds out every once in a while, get rid of weeds...wow, grass is kind of a pain.

I like the way this plant looks, like it's part of a magical fairy garden, which is kind of the goal.

"Cable car in Japan with hot tubs and beer inside."

This seems like it would be a really fun thing to do with your friends. Not only do you get to relax in mini individual hot tubs, but you also get to enjoy an amazing view! Seriously, sign me up!

"Nigeria uses its waste plastic bottles and turns them into affordable eco-friendly houses. Building a two bedroom house uses 14,000 bottles."

We honestly have wayyy too many plastic water bottles. They're, uh, kind of bad for the environment, too. But if we can find different ways to reuse them, then we won't have to worry about pollution as much.

This idea honestly seems really cool.

"On many Japanese toilets, the hand wash sink is attached so that you can wash your hands and reuse the water for the next flush."

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, the water you wash your hands with is not the same water you just flushed out of the toilet. It's the water that will be used during the next flush.

Which is definitely a great way to save water. What a smart idea.

"Thailand supermarket ditches plastic packaging for banana leaves."

Ah, banana leaves. They're thick, sturdy, flexible, and biodegradable. It's just like plastic, but without any of the plastic parts. It would be really cool if more places around the world adopted practices like this.
