Woman Shares Simple Test To See If The Pillows In Your Home Are Expired

When was the last time you bought yourself some new pillows?

If you're like me, it's been quite a while. A few years, in fact. And according to TikTok user @mama_mila_, aka Chantel, that might be too long.

As it turns out, there's a simple test you can do to check if your pillows need replacing. Let's learn it and be horrified together!

Pillows expire.

You know that they do, and you know what those old, expired pillows feel like — lumpy, thin, and unsupportive. If you have one like that, then you have an expired pillow, my friend.

Well this is gross.

I feel like we all know all of this... theoretically. It's a little different to see the realities of what's inside your pillow laid out like this, though. All I can say is, ew.

Here's how to test if you need new pillows:

Grab your pillow and fold it in half. Hold it for 30 seconds. If it's overly easy to fold it in half, your pillow might already be ready for the trash.

If it bounces back, it's fresh.

If it stays folded over, it is definitely expired. I just tried this on the pillow I affectionately call my "squishy," and, boy, that thing did not move at all. OOPS.

Did you know that pillows have an expiry date?

Chantel also pointed out that this only works for specific types of pillows.

One user responded to Chantel's video by writing, "What if I have goose down pillows? They fold when new."

To which Chantel wrote, "This test is for synthetic pillows [...] down pillows have a much longer lifespan before they loose support (around 5 - 10 years)."

A lot of people shared how they look after their own pillows, or how they don't...

Some of the stranger responses came in the forms of:

"I like them expired..."

"I've had my blanky pillow for 24 years thanks."

"My one can fold 20x and NOT A SOUL can get me to change it!!!"

So it seems that some people like their pillows a little on the deflated side.

Chantel also mentioned that, if you're the kind of person who washes your pillows, then you should be doing it quarterly.
