TikTok User Shares Gen Z's Take On Gender Reveal Cakes

Brittany Rae

To quote Sasha Velour, Season 9 winner of RuPaul's Drag Race: Gender is a construct, tear it apart!

Gender reveal parties, cakes, and decorations have definitely fallen out of public favor, what with them starting wildfires, and all. One TikTok user baked a "gender reveal" cake to show exactly what they think of all the gender reveal nonsense, and it's iconic.

Remember, gender and sex are two different things!

Gender is quite literally a social construct — it's how we define what is traditionally "male" or "female." While many believe gender and sex are the same things, they're actually quite different, and gender can be very fluid!

One TikTok user made a hilarious cake about it:

TikTok user @sf24387 posted a TikTok with the caption:

"Sharing some exciting news!#genderrevealcake #genderrevealparty #bakingtiktok #cake #genderreveal"

They revealed the first layer of the cake, which says "The."

I have no idea how they did this.

The sheer amount of work it must have taken to bake each letter, then make them INSIDE another cake? My mind is blown, my stomach is rumbling... also can I get some of that cake?

Oh boy, here we go...

What will it be? What will it say? I mean, I already know, but you don't. I'm going to save us both some time and let you know the next word is, "Is."

I think we can see where this is going.

I could not be more thrilled. Both because assigning a hard and fast gender before the child can figure it out for themselves is unnecessary, and because that cake looks so good.

Whomp, there it is.

For the record, there's nothing wrong with celebrating the sex of your child! Just keep in mind that how they choose to express their gender is totally up to them!

The comments had me ROLLING.

It's so nice that California didn't catch on fire while trying to celebrate what genitals a baby is going to be born with!

See how weird gender reveal parties are now?

So true, Beatrice!

We of the LGBTQ+ community know one thing: A plaid shirt is a sign of safety. The fact that I don't own one is an actual crime. I need to get on that.

But here's why it matters:

The more we normalize things, the more accepted marginalized people feel. There's something really beautiful about seeing someone thrive because they know that they're supported exactly as they are!

While gender reveal parties are still popular, they have been criticized in recent years.

Many people agree that the parties and cakes have simply become too over-the-top. This cake pokes fun at the trend and tries to reign it in.

Throughout history, the definitions of "masculine" and "feminine" have changed.

For example, pink used to be seen a "masculine" color and was preferred for boys. It was seen as a lighter version of red, which was understood to be masculine and for men.

See how ridiculous that sounds?

I mean, men used to wear heeled boots. They wore skirts and wigs! When did those things become feminine, and why are they feminine? Why is anything gendered?

No one is saying that we have to take away gender.

How you identify is incredibly important, and that should never be taken from you. But as a society, we could put a little less emphasis on it, and a little more on solving inequality.

What do you think about gender reveal cakes and parties?

Do you think they're a waste of time and money, or do you see the merit in it? What kind of cake do you think that cake was? I'm thinking chocolate.
