14+ Celebs Who Were Told They'd Have To Change Their Looks For Hollywood

As glamorous as Hollywood is, it's also a very superficial place that puts a ton of pressure on celebs to be perfect.

So much so that these 14+ celebs were told they'd have to change their looks to make it far.

Ummmm... if Jlo is asked to change her looks, what does that mean for the rest of us?!?!

Lea Michele

The Glee star was told that her nose stood in the way of her success.

"When I was 15, my mother and I went to meet a manager who said, 'You have to get a nose job in order for me to work with you.'"

Years later, Lea reflected on her decision to keep her natural nose.

"I wanted to look at my face and have it be my face. And why I'm so grateful that I chose that — made that decision and stuck true to what was right for me — was because I did move to Los Angeles and I ended up landing a role that, maybe if I had looked different, I wouldn't have gotten the job."

The job she's referring to? Her role of Rachel Berry on Glee!

Meghan Markle

When the Duchess first started out her acting career, she faced a lot of the self-doubts Hollywood brings.

Like being "not thin enough, not pretty enough, not ethnic enough, while also being too thin, too ethnic, too pretty the very next day," she wrote in an article for Darling Magazine.

Jessica Chastian

Up until five years ago, people in Hollywood were telling the actress that she wasn't "pretty enough."

"People would tell me to dye my hair blond when I first started auditioning," she told the Telegraph.

"Funny how defined we are by how we present ourselves."

Reese Witherspoon

When this Big Little Lies actress first got her start in Hollywood, her appearance was met with a lot of criticism.

Thankfully, she was too stubborn to care. "All I heard was, ‘No, not right—not tall enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough.’ But I didn’t really care about their opinions."

Reese is a queen through and through!

Gigi Hadid

She may be a global supermodel, but Gigi was told that she's not thin enough for runway modeling.

She addressed the criticism in an Instagram post.

"Yes I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs ... Your mean comments don't make me want to change my body."

Julie Chen

The Big Brother host was told she needed to look "less Chinese" if she wanted to make it in Hollywood.

Because of this, she ended up getting cosmetic surgery done on her eyes. "All I could see was my eyes [after that]," Chen said. "And [I wondered] does he have a point?"

Meryl Streep

An Italian director had the audacity to call the legendary actress "ugly" when he thought she couldn't understand him.

In a total boss move, Streep replied in fluent Italian: "I’m sorry I’m not beautiful enough to be in ‘King Kong.'"

Taylor Lautner

While so many fans went crazy over the star's bulky transformation for the Twilight saga, there was a lot of pressure that went into this.

"I just weighed myself today; I've put on 19 pounds. I'm guaranteeing [director] Weitz 10 more by filming," Taylor said.

Kesha

The demand for Kesha to lose weight contributed to her battle with an eating disorder.

"She had an advisor who told her he had a meeting with a record company and they said she better lose 15 pounds in the next 30 days," the star's mother told Radar.

Kat Dennings

We're so happy the 2 Broke Girls star never listened to the "advice" casting agents gave her at the start of her career.

They told her to tighten up her teeth, dye her hair, lose weight, and get a tan.

If she did all that, she wouldn't be the raven-haired beauty we all know and love!

Chrissy Teigen

The mom of three once revealed she was kicked out of a Forever 21 photoshoot because she was "too fat."

Um, what?

Jennifer Lawrence

The stunning actress was given two options: lose weight or be fired.

If you can believe it, it gets worse!

"They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet," she said.

Jennifer Lopez

When Jennifer Lopez's former agent told her to lose weight, she handled the situation perfectly by firing him on the spot.

"I was like: 'No, this is who I am and this is the type of woman that I grew up with and it's beautiful.'"

Yasss, Queen!

Ashley Graham

"I had agencies telling me that I had to lose weight," Graham revealed to People.

"I had one that waved money in my face and said, 'If you lose more 'lb's' — pounds — you can make a lot more of this.'"

We're so happy she's proved the body-shamers wrong!

Kate Beckinsale

Director Michael Bay had the nerve to tell this beautiful actress that she needed to shed 10 pounds.

"I'd just had my daughter and had lost weight but was told that if I got the part I'd have to work out and I just didn't understand why a 1940s nurse would do that," she said.

We love a history queen!

Kate Winslet

The actress opened up about being denied lead roles because to her weight, "I was even told that I might be lucky with my acting if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts".

Of course, getting cast as the female lead in "Titanic" changed all that for Kate.

"The most unlikely candidate, Kate from the sandwich shop in Reading, suddenly acting in one of the biggest movies ever made!"

"You can be from anywhere, and you can do anything. Believe it!"
