Experts Say Single Women With No Kids Are The 'Happiest And Healthiest'

It seems like every single day, we log into our Facebook accounts and someone we know is announcing their engagement. Or, we see another photo uploaded of an adorable infant doing something, well, adorable. For us single ladies, sometimes seeing everyone else happy is a huge let down for us and our outlook on our own lives.

Some people think that single women are lonely and unhappy — waiting to find Mr. Right.

Many women do feel the pressure to find someone to spend their life with. And, with social media smack-dab in our face reminding us how many people are finding the right one, it makes us feel like we're falling behind.

It's easy to feel like you're falling behind.

It's easy to feel like you need to rush your life to meet where everyone else is at. With people moving forward while you stand still, how can you not?

But, single women may be better off in the long run.

Some may believe that those women who are married with children are insanely happy and content — but, in the long run, they're actually not. And, experts are here with proof.

According to a new study, unmarried women with no children were found to be the happiest population group when surveyed.

Professor of behavioral science, Paul Dolan, told The Guardian that married people are only the, "happiest population subgroup when asked about their emotional state when their spouse is in the room."

That means that behind closed doors, married people aren't as happy as they let on.

As it turns out, when spouses leave the room, married women are actually unhappy. Dolan said, "when the spouse is not present: f—ing miserable." A huge surprise for those women who are rushing to the alter.

The happiest subgroup happens to be all the single ladies.

Dolan states, flat out, "The healthiest and happiest population subgroup are women who never married or had children.” For all of those women putting pressure on themselves, this is a good discovery.

The data comes from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS).

The survey polled several different types of people: single, married, separates, divorced and widowed. In the end, the results were clear.

Women are happier with less stress and nothing to tie them down.

Single women get to make their own decisions and live a spontaneous, worry-free life. Not having to answer to anyone restores a sense of freedom and independence that married women with kids just don't have.

The survey found, however, the opposite is true for men.

According to the study, men feel happier and more fulfilled in marriage because they feel as though their lives have "calmed down" after finding the one to spend their life with.

Men who are married live longer, while women who are married die sooner.

Dolan says that men, "take less risks, you earn more money at work and you live a little longer." But, women on the other hand "have to put up with that, and dies sooner than if she never married.”

So the next time you see an older woman who's married without kids, don't pity her.

Instead of shaming her for choosing a different path in life, remember, she may be happier than you think.
