People Can't Quite Figure Out How Many Girls Are In This Optical Illusion

All of us savvy internet users have seen it all, right? And we know when to be skeptical, when to suspect Photoshop is being wielded to fool us, when to put our guards up in general, right?

Well, yes, there's a lot of phony baloney out there on the internet.

But there's some fun stuff that's real, too, like this image that's making a lot of people wonder what's going on.

Tiziana Vergari is a Swiss photographer whose work is normally quite beautiful, but not surreal.

Her compositions tend to be gorgeously symmetrical and bright, and they make for one heck of an Instagram spread.

They're not usually designed to be optical illusions.

But one image she posted there really got people's brains hurting — it's not at all as straightforward as her other work.

So, here's the photo in question.

And of course, the question is, how many girls are actually in this photo?

I mean, in the wide world of photo trickery, just about anything could be happening here.

For me, the weirdest thing is how the poses of the girls stay similar, but they eyes seem to shift.

Look above here — the girl on the left's eyes are looking out-of-frame, and the girl on the right looks like she's looking right into the camera.

But they have exactly the same hairstyle, and the same wrinkle in their dresses!

Although, when you zoom in, it looks like the girl closest to the camera has flyaway hairs that the girl farthest from the camera doesn't... my head hurts.

The guesses came pouring in.

The Internet is torn. The guesses have come in by the thousands, with folks speculating that there are anywhere from two to 12 arrayed along that wall in the photo.

It's no wonder that folks haven't been able to agree on how many girls are in the photo.

Some thought they found clues outside the frame as well — and although there are five accounts tagged in this photo, one is Tiziana tagging herself, one is a fashion brand... it's not conclusive evidence.

People tried to use logic to figure it out, but to no avail.

Some point to bracelets, hair, and eyeline as the main clues that tip off the real answer — but are they right?

Thinking about it too hard makes my brain go fuzzy.

There's too many clues and not enough answers! Is it a whole schoolyard full of girls waiting to be called in from recess? Is the real answer NO girls, and it's all a photo-realistic drawing?

As optical illusions go, it's well done.

They just seem to go on forever, don't they?

So, what's your guess? Scroll down for the answer.

The answer is two.

The two girls are Tiziana's daughters.

She just happened to catch the pair, wearing the same outfit that day, sitting on the floor of a clothing store's fitting room.

The mirrors created that trippy scene playing with everyone's heads.

Those damn mirrors! I knew they weren't to be trusted! I might just cover all the ones in my house for the next few days just to reset my brain.

Were you right?

Do you see two girls now? Or do you think there still might be some trickery going on here?
