In Viral Post, Couple Says They Don't Want To 'Contaminate World With Baby'

When a couple gets into a serious relationship, it often seems like it's only a matter of time before they're hit with the same two questions.

Whether they're coming from extended family members or total strangers, somebody is bound to ask when they're getting married and when they're planning to have children.

Honestly, it can be really exhausting to have to keep answering those same questions all the time.

Well, one couple has a pretty definitive answer to both of those questions, and one of those might throw anyone who considers kids a foregone conclusion for a loop.

Nathalie Gómez and Andres Flu of Medeliin, Colombia officially became engaged back in September of 2015.

But in the years since, they've clearly come to a decision on whether they would have children or not because they made an announcement on January 29 that's as illustrative as it gets.

The post where they shared their big news was in Spanish, but non-speakers shouldn't have much trouble figuring out what "vasectomia" means.

But in case the photo didn't make it clear enough, The Daily Mail reported that part of their post read, "We want to share with you the great joy. WE WILL NEVER BE PARENTS."

At first the reasons for doing this don't sound out of the ordinary for couples who make similar decisions.

As Flu posted, "We accept a life in which we will eternally buy toys for ourselves, we will be able to travel without limitations, walk naked around the house and more."

However, this part is sort of facetious and outlines a few perks.

Lots of couples want those same things and even manage to include children into the mix without giving up everything.

But that was only part of this couple's reason. Their main reason sounded more serious.

They decided not to have children mainly because they didn't want to contribute to overpopulation and any potential environmental effects of it.

As Flu worded it, "The most important is to contribute to the conservation of the planet that is so overpopulated and damaged. We are not going to bring another human to contaminate it."

The use of the word "contaminate" might lead people to believe the couple doesn't like children.

But for Gómez, the fact that she does like children so much is part of why she plans not to have any.

According to The Daily Mail, she said, "Guys, children are beautiful to me."

That beauty is why she has made the decision she has.

She continued, "If I wasn't affected by what I see every day, because sometimes it hurts me to breathe, to see so many children suffering in the street, so many drugs, violence and cruelty. Believe me, I would consider having one."

Gómez also made it clear that she doesn't believe that every potential parent should suddenly stop having children.

She said, "I am aware that not everyone should think like us, that the human race should continue."

In fact, she had some positive words for those who take the role of parenthood seriously.

As she put it, "I admire the people who plan a child, who educate them with love every day, who care about [raising] a good human being who contributes to the planet."

Regardless, they've made their decision no matter what anybody has to say about it.

And as The Daily Mail reported, those following their Facebook page definitely had a lot to say about the announcement.

The responses were incredibly varied.

Some applauded the couple's determination, others were fine with it, but questioned the word "contamination." Which is a reasonable critique.

Of course there were also many angered by the idea, blasting them for their choice.

Others were fine with the idea, but didn't think it was worth advertising.

"I do not see the need to expose it on social networks," one said.

Which, of course, got a replay noting, "That's what networks are for." Fair.

So yeah, opinions were definitely mixed.

Some supported the couple's decision and their reasons for making it, while another called their explanation "very stupid" for implying that children are a contamination.
