Rescued Squirrel Named Jill Still Can't Sleep Without Her Teddy Bear

I've always had a soft spot for squirrels. Some people hate them, but even when they are literally throwing pears at my windows, I still feel mostly fondness for them.

Maybe it's because I watched a lot of The Joy of Painting growing up and Bob Ross was always talking so kindly about his rescued squirrels, especially Peapod the Pocket Squirrel.

So I was primed to think that Jill the squirrel is adorable, but I'm willing to bet that you won't be able to help loving her too.

I mean, she sleeps with a tiny teddy bear!!

Jill was rescued in 2012 after Hurricane Isaac.

The then-baby squirrel had fallen out of her nest and the family took her in "temporarily."

Now seven years old, Jill is still spoiled and loved.

And not just by her human family.

Jill's Instagram account @this_girl_is_a_squirrel has over 650,000 followers and she's even received some awesome fan art.

From all her videos, Jill definitely seems like a character.

According to her bio, Jill is a "vegetarian, parkour expert whose only fear is the vacuum. But, she loves every Starbucks napkin she meets."

Kind of sounds like me, actually.

Admittedly, Jill seems like a bit of a handful.

Look at how fast she runs!

But whether our pets are "basic" dogs or cats, or something more unusual like a squirrel, we love our adorable handfuls.

I totally understand her need for her teddy.

Plenty of us humans have that one thing that makes us feel safe. Even adults.

Until I had a real dog to cuddle, I slept with a plush dog I've had since I was a baby.

Though, admittedly, I put Ruffy away to protect him from the dogs more than because I didn't want to sleep with him anymore.

So Jill, I support you and your adorable teddy bear. You get your comfort just the way you need it and keep being the amazing squirrel you are.
