Diply 26 Jun 2018

Hi, my name is Adelaide, and I am completely and utterly obsessed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Avengers films. It first began with Iron Man, progressed deeper with Captain America, and by Avengers: Infinity War, I was no longer above water.

With new theories, details, and missed connections popping up on Reddit every day, I don't think I'll ever break free from this obsession.

According to the user, there's a connection between Avengers: Age of Ultron and A_vengers: Infinity War_ that we may have overlooked.

As you'll recall, in Age of Ultron, Thor takes a dip in the Water of Sights.

There, he has a vision about the existence of the Infinity Stones and their potential for destruction.

Of course, for many people, it's referred to as Age of Ultron's shirtless Chris Hemsworth scene or simply "the part with the thirst trap."

Either way, you know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, later in the movie (and just moments after Vision is created), Thor relays what he saw to the rest of the Avengers.

"I've had a vision: a whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life, and at its center is that," says Thor, pointing to the Mind Stone in Vision's forehead.

Which is interesting because,in Infinity War, Thanos collects the Mind Stone and places it at the center of the Infinity Gauntlet.

Well, "collects" is really justa nice way of saying that he rips it out of Vision's skull, but I digress.

Basically, the "whirlpool" Thor was referring to is the Infinity Gauntlet, and the Mind Stone is quite literally at the center of it.

This is the most straightforward connection ever, and yet somehow, I missed it.

This is actually an example of backwards foreshadowing, which is a term I just made up to explain this situation.

Age of Ultron was written and directed by Joss Whedon, while Infinity War was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and directed by the Russo Brothers.

So, the creators of Infinity War went out of their way to take a piece of dialogue from Age of Ultron and tie it into their movie with the placement of the Mind Stone within the Gauntlet.

In doing so, they created a layer to Thor's foreshadowing in Age of Ultron that wasn't previously there.

By the way, in the comics, it's the Time Stone that is almost always shown at the center of the Gauntlet.

Therefore, it's safe to assume that placing the Mind Stone at the center was an intentional choice.

Not only did it seamlessly connect to Thor's dialogue in Age of Ultron, but its placement also represented the importance of the stakes it held: Vision's life.
