There's A New Theory About Hawkeye's Role In 'Avengers: Infinity War,' And We're Sobbing

Diply 17 Apr 2018

Ever since Marvel began teasing Avengers: Infinity War, fans have wondered why Hawkeye hasn't appeared in any of the trailers or on the posters.

I mean, he's not exactly the most powerful guy on the team, but it's pretty suspicious that he's completely absent.

Come on, Marvel. Where is my boy?

Just to recap: Hawkeye is the dude with the bow and arrow.

He's basically a modern-day Robin Hood but with Jason Bourne's aesthetic and a sense of humor.

He's been around since 2011's Thor and fought for Cap's team in Captain America: Civil War.

Hawkeye aka Clint Barton might not be the most powerful Avenger, but he's got a devout fan base.

And they are very concerned about his whereabouts.

The last time we saw Hawkeye, he was locked up in that very dramatic floating prison. Of course, Cap eventually freed him, but he's still a war criminal or something now.

Part of the reason why fans are so attached to Hawkeye is because he is unlike the other members of the Avengers in one unique way.

The dude has got a family.

We learned in Avengers: Age of Ultron that Hawkeye has a wife and kids that live on a farm off the grid. He's a super soldier and family man, which is hard not to love.

Of course, fans have come up with a ton of fan theories about what's going to happen to Hawkeye.

Spoiler alert: They're kind of sad.

However, we're officially convinced that Hawkeye is going to be a lot more important than fans are expecting in the upcoming battle.

There's a ton of evidence that in either Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4, Clint Barton will drop the name "Hawkeye" and become Ronin.

I mean, Jeremy Renner was literally caught wearing a Ronin-style costume on set, so I'm thinking this is legit.

In the comics, Hawkeye takes on the name "Ronin" after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

While some fans think that Hawkeye simply goes back into retirement and lives a quiet life with his family, we're positive that's not the case.

Ummm, that would be a massive waste of Jeremy Renner, and there's no way that Hawkeye wouldn't back his friends when Thanos shows up to destroy the freakin' world.

Also, according to the Russo Brothers, Hawkeye definitely isn't waiting in the wings in Infinity War.

“We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner," said Russo. We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.”

Well, I'm intrigued!

It's totally possible that Hawkeye has been omitted from all of the trailers and posters because his role is so important that showing him could spoil the film.

Hawkeye must be up to something pretty clutch if it's keeping him away from all the action.

But that doesn't explain why he gives up the Hawkeye name.

Fans think that something tragic will happen to Hawkeye to make him become Ronin.

I mean, all of the Avengers are pretty dramatic, so I doubt his name change is just a simple re-brand.

The popular theory is that Hawkeye becomes Ronin after he loses his family during the battle against Thanos.

It would certainly be devastating for us to watch Hawkeye lose his family.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of pain.

Sure, we watched Wanda lose her brother in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but this feels like it will be so much worse. Also, I feel like it's worth noting that Quicksilver died to save Hawkeye.

Another theory is that Clint adopts the Ronin identity because it's not safe for him to be Hawkeye anymore.

I mean, he is a fugitive!

In the comics, Ronin's costume covers his face, so maybe Clint is simply trying to avoid getting caught. I like this theory because it doesn't make me want to curl up into a ball and cry.

No matter what happens to Hawkeye, we are positive that this movie is going to break all of our hearts. |

I am filled with equal parts excitement and dread! Thanks, Marvel!
