Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Hey, remember when Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out and the internet lost its mind? Good times.

While some fans love the new addition to the Star Wars franchise, others think Rian Johnson should have his limbs burnt off in the lava of Mustafar for directing the abomination.

Just to recap — Star Wars: The Last Jedi was divisive.

After The Force Awakens, fans couldn't come up with fan theories fast enough about Snoke's identity and Rey's parentage, but then The Last Jedi revealed that neither of those things matter. Some people really hated it.

It was also incredibly feminist, which pissed off a lot of fanboys.

But no matter what your qualms are with the film, it's impossible to deny that it had some great moments.

The throne room fight was undeniably awesome, and much of the cinematography was truly breathtaking.

Also, I will never stop praising The Last Jedi for blessing us with our Lord and savior: Shirtless Kylo Ren™.

Because this is a Star Wars movie, fans have been going over The Last Jedi with a fine-tooth comb ever since it hit theaters.

We just can't help ourselves.

We have to scour every frame for any and all Easter eggs or tiny details. We pump out fan theories and fanfiction. It's just part of the deal when a franchise is as beloved as Star Wars is.

However, as is often the case, one devastating detail in The Last Jedi was right in front of us the whole time.

Honestly, I'm pretty rattled that I didn't notice it.

I'd probably be a great Star Wars protagonist because I'm quick to jump to the most dramatic conclusions while ignoring the obvious answers.

There's a controversial scene in The Last Jedi where Luke Force-projects himself onto Crait, the mineral planet the Resistance sought refuge on, and dukes it out with emo-baby Kylo Ren.

Say what you will about The Last Jedi, but this scene was epic.

It's not revealed that Luke is a projection until the very end of his fight with Kylo.

That. reveal. tho.

We last see Luke sitting on a rock on Ahch-To, the planet that holds the ancient Jedi texts, before he disappears like Obi-Wan and Yoda did before him.

The whole scene was a lot to take in.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Luke's death, but that's probably because no matter how it happened, watching Luke exit the franchise was a tough pill to swallow.

However, one Twitter user pointed out that the scene is actually a callback to A New Hope, and it's forcing a lot of people to reevaluate their feelings about Luke's story line.

You probably remember that Luke's journey began when he saw a projection of Princess Leia asking for help.

Before Luke faces Kylo and disappears into a pile of laundry like all the best Jedi do, he shares a touching moment with his sister Leia.

Leia and the remainder of the rebel fleet are trapped in an old rebel base on Crait. Luke's projection distracts Kylo long enough for them to escape.

Luke's story began in A New Hope with a projection of Leia asking for help and ended in The Last Jedi with a projection of him helping her.

Star Wars has always been about the Skywalker family drama, so this emotional detail is a lot for many fans to handle.

People were rightfully shook by the revelation.

No matter how you feel about The Last Jedi, you've got to admit that this is pretty cool. This parallel has certainly helped me better come to terms with Luke's death.

Luke's final gesture was to help Leia, which was all he meant to do when this whole adventure started.
