Recycle In Style With Monogram Cork Holder

Diply 19 Sep 2018

Sure, it might not seem like a wine bottle cork would take up a ton of space in a landfill.

But like everything else we throw away, eventually, it all adds up.

With this cork holder in the shape of your favorite letter, you'll have a fun way to save those corks while adding a little style and sass to your home décor.

Plus, it's super to easy to make and doesn't require a ton of materials!

Pull together your materials, and let's get going on something green!

To start, print out a large letter of your choosing.

Then, tape your big letter to the foam core to keep it from moving. For the letter, you could opt for the first letter of your name or maybe "W" for "wine."

Using your X-Acto knife, trace the shape of the letter onto your foam core.

Make sure to press hard enough so that you'll eventually be able to pop the letter out from the rest of the surrounding foam core. You might also want to put a mat underneath your letter so that you don't cut up the surface below.

Remove paper from around your letter, and use the enamel paint to begin creating the design on your letter.

We opted for polka dots, but you could do swirls, stars, hearts, or even other letters. Use your imagination, and have fun!

Once your design is completed and dried, remove the traced and cut letter from the surrounding foam core.

Be careful not to tear or bend your letter. And if there are parts you didn't manage to cut all the way through, just use your X-Acto knife to trim away those sections.

Next, cut out long strips of poster board in equal width.

You'll use these strips of poster board to form the sides of your letter that will eventually hold your corks in place.

Use your hot glue gun and sticks to secure the poster board to your foam core letter, thus creating a border around the letter.

For the places on your letter that form right angles, you can fold the poster board to fit. Simply trim away any excess.
