Pumpkins and leaves and gourds are pretty standard fare when it comes to fall decorations. And although those oranges, reds, and yellows most definitely have their place, there's something refreshing about a decoration that celebrates the moon this time of year.

With some polymer clay and cookie cutters, you can create your own phases of the moon wall hanging that will add a little something unique during the best season of the year!

Pull together all of your materials, and let's howl at the moon!

Warm up the gray and white polymer clay in your hands, and mash the two colors together.

As you're combining the two colors, keep in mind that you're going for a sort of marbled appearance within the clay.

Once the two clays are combined with that sort of marbled appearance, use your hands to smash the ball flat.

Once the clay's fairly flat, use your rolling pin to flatten it to an even thickness.

Next, use round cookie cutters to cut out moon phase shapes from your marbled clay.

You might need to use your hands to further shape the phases so they more closely resemble the phases of the actual moon.

Once you've got all your shapes, bake all of them at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.

Attach embroidery thread to dowel using a larks head knot.

You'll need one peace of thread for every phase of the moon you've created. So, if you did it like ours, you'll need seven.

String wooden beads wherever you prefer, tying an overhand knot in the thread to hold them in place.

You can scotch tape the end of the thread to make it easier to thread the beads. The beads will sort of resemble stars next to your moon phases, so you can scatter them randomly or string them in more of a pattern.

Hot glue the phases of your moon to the ends of the thread.

Trim away any excess thread that hangs below your moons.

You're almost done! Are you already envisioning where you'll hang your moons in your home?
