How To Make A Halloween Succulent Planter That Doesn't Succ

Diply 19 Oct 2018

There's no better time than the Halloween season to get your weird on. And with this coffin succulent planter, you can do exactly that.

The best part of it, other than the simple, inexpensive ingredients, is that it's small enough that you can spread a little eeriness anywhere you want, whether that's at your home, in your office, or somewhere out in public no one would expect.

Have fun, my ghosts and goblins!

Gather up your materials, and let's get spooky!

To begin, decorate your small, wooden coffin with hot glue.

You can write creepy words or birthday and death dates, or symbols like a scull and crossbones, or something equally as ghoulish.

Cover the entire coffin in black acrylic paint.

You might have to put on a few coats to cover the coffin completely. Make sure it's thoroughly dry before moving on to the next step.

Take gold enamel paint and dry brush it on a paper towel.

Use the remainder on the brush to highlight the coffin. Don't cake the paint on too thickly. The idea is to give it a sort of aged look.

Clip apart the plastic skeleton’s body parts, like an arm and a leg.

Hot glue the parts that you removed onto the bottom of the coffin. Feels pretty creepy already, right?

Cover the parts you hot glued to the bottom of the coffin with potting soil.

You want to leave some of the parts sticking out to create the illusion that the skeleton's so old, it's come apart in its coffin. Yep, it's that creepy.

Place the remainder of the skeleton in the soil, and cover it with a bit more dirt.

Next, place your small succulents throughout the coffin. Kinda got a "life springs from death" vibe going, doesn't it?
