16+ Things We Learned About 'Avengers: Infinity War' After Its Release

Diply 12 Jun 2018

Over the past month or so, I've been stalking the internet for new information on Avengers: Infinity War the same way I stalk ex-boyfriends on Instagram: intensely and with zero shame.

This borderline obsessive behavior has yielded a ton of Avengers-related details since the film's release. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about Infinity War thus far.

1. Groot's final word in Infinity War translates to "Dad."

In case you forgot, Groot says this final word to Rocket, just before he evaporates.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed this little tidbit via Twitter, effectively crushing the collective heart of MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans everywhere.

2. Elizabeth Olsen isn't a fan of her Scarlet Witch costume, or uh, lack thereof.

"I like corsets, but I'd like it to be higher," explained Olsen. "Everyone has these things that cover them — Tessa Thompson does, Scarlett does. I would like to cover up a bit," she continued.

"It's funny because sometimes, I look around, and I'm just like — wow, I'm the only one who has cleavage," added Olsen.

"And that's a constant joke because they haven't really evolved my superhero costume that much," pointed out the Marvel superhero.

How 'bout a little body armor, eh, Russo Brothers?

3. Chris Pratt knows you're pissed at Star-Lord — and he's pissed that you're pissed.

Raise your hand if you were annoyed when Star-Lord ruined the Avengers' plan to get the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos:

"I think he reacted in a way that's very human,"Prattresponded to the controversy.

"I guess you could have the movie end a half hour earlier if you wanted," he added sarcastically.Well, no, obviously I didn't want that. So...I guess I'm glad Star-Lord thwarted a plan to save half the universe? Ugh, I'm so confused.

4. Dave Bautista improvised his "Why is Gamora?" line.

Know Your Meme | Know Your Meme

This was arguably the funniest moment in the entire movie, and the fact that it was improvised makes it that much better.

"The script only said, 'Where is Gamora?' 'I'll do you even better: Who is Gamora?'" explained Infinity War screenwriter Christopher Markus.

"And then one day Bautista just goes, 'I'll do you one better: Why is Gamora?'" said Markus. "It's like, 'OK, you're very good at your job.'"

Amen to that.

5. Tom Holland also improviseda scene in Infinity War: Spider-Man's death.

The only thing codirector Joe Russo told Holland was to "act like you don't want to go."Aside from a little direction, the rest of that heartbreaking moment was all Holland.

6. Spider-Man took longer to die in Infinity War because he felt his death ensuing thanks to his Spider-Sense.

Basically, Joe Russo confirmed that Spider-Man — the least experienced and most innocent hero in the film — had to undergo the sensation of dying longer than any other character.

It feels like someone just put my heart in a trash compactor.

7. Deadpool tried to join the Avengers but was rejected.

Shortly after the release of Infinity War, Ryan Reynolds congratulated the team and shared a photo of Deadpool's personal Avengers rejection letter from Tony Stark.

Needless to say, I would pay a lot of money to see Deadpool work alongside the Avengers.

8. The Infinity War writers were certain that the scene where Thor arrives on Wakanda with Groot and Rocket would make it into the film.

"The whole thing is built off of that," said writer Stephen McFeely, referring to the culminating moment of Thor's narrative in Infinity War.

The movie just wouldn't have been the same without Thor jamming Stormbreaker directly into Thanos' chest...

...but yeah, he should have aimed for the head.

9. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are going to have a child because Gwyneth Paltrow said so.

Instagram | @jonfavreau

While discussing Pepper's relationship with Tony, Paltrow said, "She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they're married, and they have a child."

So, that scene in Infinity War where Tony tells Pepper he had a dream where she was pregnant? Yeah, that's officially foreshadowing.

Many thanks for the plot leak, Ms. Paltrow.

10. Tony Stark was using an outdated flip phone in Infinity War because that's what Steve Rogers gave him at the end of Captain America: Civil War.

Admittedly, when I first saw Tony with that clunky Motorola, I was confused.

Only after rewatching Civil War did it all made sense.

11. Josh Brolin kind of agrees with Thanos' use of the Infinity Gauntlet.

Variety | Variety

"His intention, if you think about, his intention was there is an overabundance of population and there's limited resources," said Brolin during an interview. "So, what he's doing is actually right, right?" he added.

Looks like someone would fit right in with Reddit's r/thanosdidnothingwrong community.

12. Only after Infinity War was released did we realize that this 2017 promo poster spoiled half of the movie's plot points.

Reddit | aliyaghi

There I was, conjuring up all these wild, implausible theories about Infinity War when a good chunk of the story was already laid out for me at a San Diego Comic-Con.

13. Tom Holland had literally no idea what was going on while on the set of Infinity War.

Instagram | @commentsbycelebs

Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration.

However, Holland is notorious for handing out Marvel spoilers like free candy, and as a result, the Russo Brothers wouldn't even allow him to read the full script for Infinity War.

Speaking of Tom Holland's inability to keep a secret, he also "accidentally" told us the title of Spider-Man 2.

Instagram | @tomholland2013

The sequel's official title is apparently Spider-Man: Far From Home.

So, yeah, we're about 99.9% sure Spider-Man is will come back to life following Infinity War.

14. Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner all got matching Avengers tattoos after Infinity War.

Twitter | @MarvelOfRogers

Mark Ruffalo opted out, however, probably because he's the responsible dad of the group.

Now, if I also get this tattoo, does that mean Chris Hemsworth and I technically got matching tattoos?

I can say that, right? I think so.OK, thanks. I'm gonna go for it.

15. Captain Marvel can MOVE ENTIRE FREAKIN' PLANETS, Y'ALL.

Brie Larson, the actress we'll soon be seeing play Captain Marvel in the near future, revealed this information during an interview with E!

Fingers crossed that she drops a big ol' planet right on Thanos' head in Avengers 4.

16. Harry Potter fans thought Infinity War copied the wizard-based franchise.

Magic Alley | Magic Alley

After reviewing Potterheads' arguments, I can see a few loose similarities — I suppose.

For example, both Voldemort and several heroes in Infinity War are eviscerated into dust.

Obviously, though, that's not an entirely original idea in and of itself.

My Comic Shop | My Comic Shop

Ultimately, a lot of what Infinity War is based on comes from comics written as early as the 1970s.

So, there's really no argument here.

17. And finally, we learned what the next Avengers film has in store for us.

Here's the first plot summary forAvengers 4:"A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it."Aside from the part about "sacrifices," I'm stoked.
