Kim Kardashian Just Snapped Back At People Who Said Kylie Jenner Isn't 'Self-Made,' And Huh?

Diply 17 Jul 2018

You know what's a really, really cool characteristic to have? Self-awareness. More specifically, understanding your own privilege in this world, which is something that can be grasped through empathy and a working knowledge of those who lead different lives than your own.

Evidently, though, not everyone has this characteristic.

You remember last week, when Kylie Jenner was pronounced a "self-made" billionaire by Forbes Magazine, right?

Ahh yes, what a time to be alive indeed.

Both Kylie and Forbes wound up receiving a ton of backlash for the title, chiefly because few people consider a woman from a rich and famous family to be "self-made."

Well, Kim Kardashian has since voiced her opinion on the subject.

During an interview with Refinery29, Kim recalled her reaction to, frankly, the entire internet dragging her younger sister.

"I really didn't get it, because she is 'self-made' — we are all 'self-made.' What, because we came from a family that has had success?" said Kim.

Ummmm...

Uhhhh...

Let's just push forward.

According to Dictionary.com, which also shaded Kylie's "self-made" title (proof that everyone loves drama — even online lexicons), the term "self-made" is defined as: "Having succeeded in life unaided."

As in, without the help of an affluent family.

Kim's response didn't end there.

"To me, that doesn't really make sense," she continued. "I know so many people like that [who] haven't turned out to be as successful as Kylie. If anything, I've seen the complete opposite," insisted Kim.

In Kim's eyes, Kylie Jenner is self-made because there are other rich young people who don't use their unlimited resources to start a successful company that, in turn, will make them their own money.

Actually, I think that's just called taking advantage of opportunities that have presented themselves.

There's nothing "unaided" about having unlimited business, financial, legal, and branding advice at your fingertips.I say unlimited because money and connections can easily help you acquire all those things.

In no way am I trying to downplay Kylie's success — am I worth $900 million? Of course not, I'm barely worth $900.

Kylie Jenner certainly deserves credit for building up both her social influence and beauty empire, and I never shy from applauding a powerful female figure.

But "self-made" implies that she did it on her own, and you can't seriously expect anyone to buy that.

I mean, just look what happened when Forbes tried to make everyone to believe it — they got dragged.

But as harsh at the internet can be, they're also surprisingly generous.

A troll actually started a GoFundMe campaign to help Kylie Jenner officially reach a 1 billion dollar net worth.

"I don't want to live in a world where Kylie Jenner doesn't have a billion dollars," the fundraiser reads. "WE MUST RAISE 100 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP HER GET TO A BILLION, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD."

As it stands, the campaign has raised $2,029 of its $100 million goal.

Obviously, the internet has a great sense of humor. Although, the fact that people are donating their hard-earned coins to Kylie Jenner is a bit concerning.

But what's more concerning to me is that Kim Kardashian doesn't appear to understand her own family's privilege.

But hey, maybe she does, and it merely didn't come across in that interview.Because otherwise, wow.
