Apparently That Pic Of Justin Bieber Eating A Burrito Is Fake

Diply 29 Oct 2018

I have to admit that I'm a little more than shook right now. Up until about 10 minutes ago, I was under the impression that you could trust everything you read on the internet, and I've just learned that this is, in fact, not true.

I need a minute.

Okay, you guys. Close your eyes and think back to a few days ago.

Allllll the way back to before the world you once thought you could trust completely betrayed you.

Back to when we all thought that Justin Bieber didn't know how to eat a burrito like a normal human being.

At first, I blamed Canada for this obscene behavior, but now I take it back.

Because it turns out that the pic of Biebs is actually totally fake, and get this — it's not even Justin Bieber at all.

I know. I'm just going to give you all a minute to let you guys absorb this information.

Let me explain what happened here, and how a couple of pranksters managed to fool literally 99% of news outlets.

I'm both really impressed and really annoyed that I fell for this.

So these guys on the YouTube channel Yes Theory wanted to challenge themselves to engineer a viral story.

They said they wanted to stage a story (as goofy as it was) and prove that it can be done much more easily than most people might imagine.

First, they stumbled across Justin Bieber's lookalike, Brad Sousa, on Instagram.

I have to admit that he really does look like Justin — it's pretty freaky, to be honest.

They invited him to Los Angeles and planned to get him to do unusual things in public, hoping that one of these things would go viral.

And clearly, it worked out for them.

Their first step was to get Brad to look like the current Justin Bieber, who has longer blond hair and lots of tattoos.

At the time, Brad was looking a lot like 2017 Bieber.

So they hit up a wig shop and worked their magic.

They also decided to have Brad wear long sleeves and jeans to avoid having to wear fake tattoos, but even the beanie and pink sweater he wears is very Justin-esque and only makes the two look more alike.

First, the boys tried to make a video of Brad getting out of his car to help an old lady cross the street go viral.

A Hollywood tour bus even stopped and caught the whole exchange happen, but the story never went viral.

They then decided to photograph Brad eating the burrito like a weirdo, and thus was born the viral photo we all know and hate today.

He literally sat there and ate the entire burrito like that for the photo shoot. Such dedication to the craft.

They took that photo and shared it to Reddit.

It gained very minimal traction — until they decided to post it on the r/mildlyinfuriating sub, and before they knew it, it had thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments, not one of them questioning if this was actually the real Justin Bieber or not.

By the next day, news outlets like Vanity Fair and E! Online had picked it up, and the viral photo had spread to all parts of the world.

To Vanity Fair's credit, before they wrote the story, they got in contact with the boys first and had them confirm that they took the photo and that it really was Justin Bieber.

The boys did several phone interviews with news outlets, pretending that they had seen Justin in the park, and decided to snap a picture of him eating a burrito,

So I mean, they straight-up lied to these news outlets, so it's no wonder that we all fell for this sneaky prank.

What gets me the most is that the real Justin Bieber never once spoke up and denied that the photo was him.

Twitter | @justinbieber

He literally just played along and let the boys have their fun. I'm kind of here for that.

The whole thing is a pretty good lesson in not believing everything you see on the internet.

Except for this article. I promise I'm not pranking you.
