Viral Photo Of Homeless Man Reunites Him With His Family And Rallies A Whole Community

There are a lot of homeless people in the world, and even if you have the most generous heart, it can be overwhelming to contemplate helping them all.

And even if you want to help, it's hard to quiet the voice in your head that wonders if the money you give will actually help, or if it will just be spent on some vice that may or may not have put the person on the street in the first place.

Johnny Servantez of Indianapolis had reached a point where he refused to give money to panhandlers, but one particular man caused him to break his rule.

After giving the man some money, Servantez posted a photo on his Facebook page, requesting that others do the same.

In the pic, you can clearly see how emaciated the homeless man is. It's heartbreaking.

Many people shared the photo and offered aid, making the post go viral, which led to it being seen by Danny Rhodes, who recognized the man as his brother, Johnny.

According to Danny, he has not seen his brother for seven years, when the man disappeared after their mother died.

He was desperate to help but struggled to find his brother on the streets. Meanwhile, a fellow good Samaritan knew that she had to do something.

She began a Facebook page to organize the community first to locate Johnny, then to get him the help he needed.

The original post went up on a Saturday, but it wasn't until Monday afternoon that he was located.

Having found Johnny, Smith got him a hotel room for the night, food, and clean clothes.

Though she hoped he would agree to go to the Good News Ministries for help the next day, he refused and returned to his corner.

But the community hasn't given up on him, and the Facebook group dedicated to finding him has a new goal: keeping him fed and healthy until alternative arrangements can be made.
