A woman in Italy is making headlines for doing something most of us would never even consider as a possibility. 

After her relationship of 12 years came to an end two years ago, Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old fitness trainer, decided to marry herself, an act referred to as sologamy.

Laura explains, "I told my friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself."

So, when her 40th birthday came and went, Laura kept her promise and planned a wedding — complete with a dress, cake, bridesmaids, and 70 guests.

"I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairytale even without the prince," she insists
