A woman in Italy is making headlines for doing something most of us would never even consider as a possibility.
After her relationship of 12 years came to an end two years ago, Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old fitness trainer, decided to marry herself, an act referred to as sologamy.
Laura explains, "I told my friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself."
So, when her 40th birthday came and went, Laura kept her promise and planned a wedding — complete with a dress, cake, bridesmaids, and 70 guests.
Even though this type of ceremony isn't legally valid, Laura and other single individuals like her are part of a growing, global trend.
And while she has received harsh criticism since posting about her decision on social media, Laura is happy she did it.
