13+ Emmy Moments That Made The Whole Night

Diply 18 Sep 2018

Let's face it: Events like the 2018 Emmy Awards are only as good as the internet memes they produce. Don't get me wrong, I love watching talented individuals get recognized for their work in the television industry, but I really love watching live, candid reactions from celebrities who are usually tied to a script.

That said, here are some of the best (and a few of the worst) moments from the 2018 Emmy Awards.

1. When director Glenn Weiss used his Emmy acceptance speech to propose to his girlfriend, simultaneously launching the bar for romance into outer space.

After winning the award for Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special for his work on the Oscars, Weiss spoke to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen, in the audience.

"You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend?" asked Weiss. "Because I want to call you my wife." Love wins!

Excuse me while I die of happiness for them.

Comedian Leslie Jones felt a similar way.

After the proposal went down, Jones posted a video of herself saying, "First of all, the man that's gonna be with me is gonna propose to me on the Emmys, okay?

"If you don't do that then you ain't serious about our love," added Jones.

All jokes aside, I still vote YES to high expectations!

3. Chrissy Teigen showed up looking like a freakin' Earth angel.

Unfortunately, the Twitter Queen had to endure a number of body shaming trolls because... Oh, right, there's no valid reason for taking part in that activity.

For example, one person thought that prefacing a tactless question with "the utmost respect" would fly with Chrissy.

If you have to begin a question by qualifying it as not rude, then it's probably super rude.

Another person wondered why Chrissy — an equally famous and accomplished celebrity, BTW — often attended public events with her husband. I mean, seriously?

4. But those trolls aren't important. What is important is that, once again, Chrissy Teigen delivered on a 2018 awards show reaction meme.

During the show's opening monologue, a few of Colin Jost's and Michael Che's jokes made Chrissy cringe and sink into her chair.Of course, cringing is one of the most widespread and relatable emotions of 2018 (we don't have time to get into why—we just don't!), so you can expect to see this gif floating around in the coming months.

I'm sorry, but the color coordination here is just so darling, I'm going to have to sit down for at least an hour to recover from this cuteness overload.

6. Unfortunately, Twitter was altogether pissed off when Oh didn't win the award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Come on, guys! I'm sure her parents are still extremely proud of her. After all, Oh is the first-ever Asian actress to be nominated in that category, and it's about time!

7. Let's not forget that Jeremy Renner offered to pick up some booze for unnervingly flawless couple Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake.

Jeremy Renner is giving me uncle-who-supplies-his-21-year-old-nephew-with-his-first-Budweiser vibes, and I don't hate it!

8. And now, a moment to appreciate the sun-rivaling glow of pregnant Kerry Washington on the Emmys red carpet.

Washington was also one of the many female black celebrities to embrace stunningly natural hairstyles (braids, locs, and Afros) at the 2018 Emmy Awards. Needless to say, I'm 100% here for the natural glam.

11. Game of Thrones won six billion awards (okay, six), but the viewers at home also won thanks to this cute interaction between Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington.

Television show taste is relative, and yet, somehow, Game of Thrones is still the best thing on TV.

I know, I know — this technically happened before the Emmys, but I really wanted to inspire you with 1. Van Ness wearing sneakers and a dress on the red carpet, and 2. His top-tier sass.
