We Did The Math: Here's How Quickly The Duggars Are Going From Courting To Pregnant

Diply 13 Apr 2018

Is anyone else strangely obsessed with how the Duggar family chooses to live their lives? Their courting practices have been widely criticized because of how out of the norm it is, but we keep coming back for more and watching this family grow on their TLC show, Counting On.

The Duggar family has many strict rules when it comes to dating or, as they call it, "courting."

The family refers to it as "dating with a purpose", and chances are that if you're courting somebody, you have plans to marry that person, as long as that's what the couple wants.

The couple is constantly accompanied by a chaperone and never has alone time. Usually, it's one of their siblings tagging along on a date.

Their text conversations have to include their parents in the chat until they become engaged.

And as we all know, they save their first kiss for marriage and are only allowed side hugs while courting.

Thanks to 19 Kids and Countingand its spin-off, Counting On, we've been able to watch each of the Duggar kids begin courtships, become engaged, get married, and have children.

Some of the moments have been a bit more awkward than others, like the time Ben asked Jessa if she would like to start courting...in front of her parents.

And to some, it might seem that these major milestone steps happen rather quickly.

Well, they wouldn't be wrong. It's typically in a matter of months that the relationship goes from courting to engagement to being married.

And typically, it's less than a year later that they're welcoming their first child.

Well, we were curious about just how quickly the Duggars make these moves, so we did some math.

And it turns out that between Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joe, and Joy-Anna, the Duggars go from courting to announcing their pregnancies in an average of just 13 months.

Couples like Jessa and Ben Seewald, for example, took a little longer to take these steps.

They began their courtship in September of 2013 and were engaged in August of 2014. By November of 2014, they were married, but they didn't announce that they were expecting until April of 2015.

Together, they have two boys, Spurgeon and Henry.

Jinger and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, also took things slower (all things considered, that is).

By November of 2016, they were married, but they didn't announce that they were expecting until January of 2018.
