Twitter Can't Decide If Drew Barrymore's Latest Interview Is Real

Diply 4 Oct 2018

Drew Barrymore is one of those actresses who has always been on the scene, you know? I mean, it makes sense, considering that she's been acting since she was basically a fetus.

I love that Drew is super unproblematic on social media (clapbacks are few and far between with her), and she's just living her best life — even when bizarre and rude interviews are published about her.

I'm pretty sure that Drew Barrymore has starred in absolutely every movie ever.

Am I being dramatic? Absolutely.

But I'm not just going to sit here and pretend that Charlie's Angels and 50 First Dates don't represent the entire film industry, okay?

Anyway, she's had her share of ups and downs in Hollywood, and who hasn't?

*Hello!* magazine's biography touches on a few of them, but in the end, Drew's still a talented actress, mother, and rising beauty and style guru.

No, really. I hate to admit it but I'm just learning about her Flower Beauty line.

Actually, I'm learning a lot about celebrity beauty lines recently. I knew Drew was a spokeswoman for CoverGirl back in the day, but her makeup line is actually super popular, not to mention affordable. Can I get a hallelujah?

Anyway, it's no surprise that Drew lives a very busy life, but she does make time for interviews from time to time.

Especially when she has a new show or movie coming out.

But fans are convinced that Drew didn't make time for one interview in particular...

Twitter user @adammbaron was on an Egypt Air flight when he noticed a rather suspicious-looking interview printed in the in-flight magazine, Horus.

He shared photos he took of the interview, and it wasn't long before it went viral.

Why is this interview going viral, you may ask?

Well, let me tell you, because it's honestly so bizarre.

The article features an "interview" with Drew, but honestly, it looks totally and completely made up. Not to mention, it's a little insulting.

Twitter | @adammbaron

"Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary[sic] take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother," the intro reads.

"It is known that Barrymore has had almost 17 relationships, engagements and marriages; psychologists believe that her behavior is only natural since she lacked the male role model in her life after her parents' divorce when she was only 9 years old," it continued.

I mean, what?

"She has been subconsciously seeking attention and care from a male figure; but unfortunately things do not always go as planned and she has not yet succeeded in any relationship for various reasons," it went on.

The interview also pointed out that she had "gained several kilograms" after her last pregnancy, but had since returned to her "previous graceful body."

Anyone in 2018 would question this interview and assume that for some reason it was entirely made up, right?

Turns out, not so much.

The thing is, Egypt Air took to Twitter to CONFIRM that the interview was, in fact, legitimate, and conducted by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), Dr. Aida Tekla.

I'm honestly shook.

Oh, and a Twitter account claiming to be Aida herself (it's been active since 2016, but not officially verified) has even addressed the article.

Fans were quick to call out the spelling errors, and Aida claimed that she had dictated the tweet. classic autocorrect, getting in the way again.

According to the BBC, Drew's representative confirmed that she never actually sat down for this specific interview, but instead, some of her quotes were pulled from some of her previous interviews from press conferences for HFPA.

That makes a bit more sense, right?

I guess we can conclude that this interview is both bizarre and not entirely legitimate, and Twitter completely agrees.

They make a good point about the "almost 17 relationships" bit — what does that even mean?

If we learned anything from this whole experience, it's that we need to start reading the in-flight magazines from now on...

Because who knows what kind of gems we could stumble upon?
