Twitter Tried To Start Drama Between Ariana Grande And Nicki Minaj, And They Lost It

Diply 3 Aug 2018

Let's be honest: The music industry is one of the most competitive places to be. You don't see anyone comparing the acting skills of Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, but you'll easily find people comparing the talent of two musical artists.

For example, two artists like Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.

I don't know about you, but I'm totally obsessed with this friendship. Recently, the pair released the single "Bed," and it's got me hoping that they collaborate on at least 100 more songs.

In case you haven't heard, both Ariana and Nicki have albums dropping in August.

Needless to say, it's going to be a great month.

Ariana Grande is set to release her album, Sweetener, on August 17th.

Nicki was originally supposed to release her album, Queen, on August 10th.

Unfortunately, Nicki ran into some licensing troubles, admitting to her fans that she'd yet to acquire the rights to sample a Tracy Chapman song used on her album.

So, rather than removing the record which samples the song from her album, Nicki decided to push the release date.

Nicki wanted to give Tracy Chapman more time to respond and (ideally) approve the sample. And— you guessed it— Nicki pushed the release to the same date as Ariana's Sweetener.

Now, I don't know if you're aware of this, but Ariana Grande has an extremely passionate (and slightly terrifying) fan base.

And after they heard that Nicki was releasing her album on the same day as Ariana, they weren't too happy.

They began pitting Nicki and Ariana against each other.

Some of Ariana's fans were worried that Nicki's album would prevent Sweetener from reaching #1 status on the Billboard charts.

Basically, they thought this was sabotage.

But Ariana Grande was having none of it.

This is the face I imagine Ariana having when she found out what was happening on Twitter.

Ariana went out of her way to SHUT THE NEGATIVITY DOWN!

Not only did she tell fans to buy and stream both albums, but she let everyone know that artists don't care as much about topping charts as we might think they do.

Yes ? girl ? shut ? it ? down. ?

She then went on to wish everyone a Happy Sweetner, Queen, and Bloom month.

Bloom is an upcoming album from Troye Sivan, who Ariana is also close with.

On top of that, Ariana put her own spin on a Nicki Minaj lyric from "No Frauds," where Nicki raps, "Me and Drizzy laughed at that," in response to something ridiculous.

Oh, and Nicki Minaj graced us with her response to the non-drama, too.

"I love this woman," tweeted Nicki. "Can't wait for the fans to benefit from all the hard work on both ends. We love your passion. You guys will be VERY happy. Trust. That's all I'll say ???."

Nothing but positivity here!

Basically, we should all just be very grateful that we're getting a brand-new Nicki and Ariana album on the same day.

And we really need to stop pitting artists against each other. They're both queens!

Anyway, August 17 is pretty much going to be like Christmas in August.

I can't wait!
