Dave Bautista Says He'll Quit 'Guardians 3' If His Demands Aren't Met, And Twitter Is Not OK

If you're a Guardians of the Galaxy fan, then the past few weeks likely haven't been very fun for you. At least, not if you were particularly fond of James Gunn's impact on the franchise, which appears to have recently ended.

Of course, that's because Disney recently severed ties with James Gunn after some offensive tweets by the director were unearthed.

Gunn publicly accepted the decision, tweeting, "In the past, I have apologized for humor of mine that hurt people. I truly felt sorry and meant every word of my apologies."

But Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the franchise, hasn't been so quick to accept Disney's choice to let Gunn go.

“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man,” said Bautista, speaking to ShortList.

“I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out," explained Bautista.

"But I was more like: F*** this. This is bulls***. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met," admitted the actor.

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me," warned Bautista.

Bautista is specifically referring to the script written by Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t,” added Bautista, referring to playing the role of Drax under a new script.

According to Bautista, Gunn had already completed and turned in his script to Disney for the third installment.

Shorty after threatening to quit if Disney didn't meet his demands, Bautista addressed the issue again on Twitter.

This time, the actor emphasized that he would do whatever he was legally obligated to — like fulfill his contract as Drax, for example — but that he was not happy under the circumstances.

After hearing that Bautista was considering leaving the franchise, several angry fans insisted that he do just that.

Obviously, people were upset by Bautista's willingness to leave the franchise.

Others were less shaken by Bautista's threat, claiming that the role of Drax could be easily filled by another WWE superstar.

In other words, not everyone thinks Bautista is crucial to the character of Drax.

But there were also people supporting the actor's decision to stand beside Gunn and his Guardians Vol. 3 script.

Using Gunn's script is one thing, but rehiring the director seems highly unlikely at this point.

This news comes not long after Bautisa tweeted his initial feelings towards the firing of Gunn.

"He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have," continued the actor.

Bautista then concluded his statement, saying, "I'm NOT ok with what’s happening to him."

In addition to Bautista, several other Guardians cast members recently signed a letter supporting the reinstatement of Gunn as the film's director.

Up until this point, however, Disney has made no indication that they will do so.
