Chris Evans' Message About Captain America Has Us Worried

Diply 5 Oct 2018

Let's get one thing straight: Captain America is the epitome of morality, the personification of heroism, the superhero of superheroes. The best, the absolute best.

If there's a single super solider you'd trust to conscientiously save the universe, it's Steve Rogers.

So, it's a real pity that he dies in Avengers 4, huh?

Alright, maybe not dies dies, but based on a recent tweet from Chris Evans, Captain America fans shouldn't feel comfortable.

I wrote the above intro, so I'm just as emotionally wrecked as the rest of y'all are about to be.

In what began as a typical filming update, Evans tweeted, "Officially wrapped on Avengers 4."

I mean, typical insofar that those five words literally have me salivating at my desk.

"It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor," added Evans.

Whoa, whoa, whoa — excuse me, Mr. Evans, but those words are a hair too foreboding for my fragile heart.

Clearly determined to ruin my day, Evans continued, "To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories!"

Why does it sound like you're signing off, Chris?!

"Eternally grateful," concluded Evans, effectively ripping my heart out like Kano from Mortal Kombat.

You don't have to be an expert on tone to deduce that this tweet was a farewell salute.

So, naturally, fans began responding to the tweet as if its thread was an unofficial memorial service for Steve Rogers.

Guys, you know that Steve Rogers isn't an actually a U.S. soldier, right?

Sorry if that last bit was a tad insensitive. I'm currently stuck on stage one of the five stages of grief: Denial.

And I'm hoping to remain on that stage until the release of Avengers 4...perhaps even after it.

In fact, I've been in denial ever since MTV announced that Evans would be taking a break from acting following the completion of his Marvel Studios contract.

It really, really hurt me to type the words "completion of his Marvel Studios contract."

And FYI, that contract ends with Avengers 4.

Excuse me while I stare vaguely into space contemplating a world without Chris Evans as Captain America...

...Annnnnd I'm back — and feeling worse than ever!

Speaking to Variety, Evans said, "I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do."

However, that doesn't mean Evans is quitting acting for good.

"I just don't know that I'll be pursuing anything acting-wise outside of my Marvel contract, unless I'm directing it," explained Evans to BuzzFeed News.

That's right — Evans is looking more towards directing opportunities, a mantle which he's filled once before.

In 2014, Evans directed and starred in a little indie film called Before We Go, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.

"The beautiful thing about the Marvel contract is that it enables you opportunities that might be a little harder to get on their feet without the notoriety that Marvel brings," said Evans.

While processing all this information, I came up with a solution that I think will make both parties — Evans and Captain America fans — happy.

Literally no one is emotionally prepared to let Evans go after Avengers 4, and if he's only interested in starring in films that he directs, then let the man direct Captain America 4, or whatever he bloody well wants!

Anyway, Disney, that's my idea, ready for the taking.

Please, please, please pitch this to Chris Evans.
