It was an uphill battle to convince my parents to let me get a cat — like actually years of trying to be sneaky and slip the idea into conversations...and still, nothing. 

One day, though, it's like my parents woke up new people, because they said that they'd take me to the shelter that afternoon to get a cat if I still wanted one. To this day, I don't know what changed, but I'm happy that it did.
