We Dared To Try Buddy The Elf's Breakfast, And Son Of A Nutcracker, It Was Questionable

Diply 15 Dec 2017

If you're familiar with the movie Elf, you probably know all about Buddy's infamous breakfast.

It consists of spaghetti, maple syrup, M&Ms, mini marshmallows, sprinkles, and chocolate Pop-Tarts, and it's topped with chocolate syrup and even more maple syrup, because why not?

For whatever reason, we hard-working employees at Diply decided to taste test this, and there were some seriously mixed reactions.

Elf is one of those Christmas movies that's quickly becoming a classic holiday staple you have to watch every year.

It's full of amazing one-liners and, apparently, some interesting recipes.

When I was a kid, I knew better than to try Buddy's spaghetti breakfast.

Now that I'm an adult, however, I convinced several of my coworkers to try this breakfast simply because there were no parents around to stop us.

I gathered the ingredients and got to work before 9 A.M.

I had to make sure the recipe was authentic as possible, so this was a thing that happened.(I washed my hands, I promise!)

Rana, our social media assistant, was the first to give it a go.

The verdict? 7/10! She was surprised that it wasn't that bad. "The spaghetti throws it off, but the chocolate makes you want to keep chewing," she explained.

I tried it next, and the second the fork hit my mouth, I was so done.

There was something about the spaghetti texture and the overwhelmingly sweet flavor that was just too much for me.

0/10, would not even recommend to the mean girls in high school who only ever ate salads for lunch.

Lauren, one of the entertainment writers, gave it a go and she lived to tell the tale.

Despite her initial unsure reaction, she gave it a 7/10. "It wasn't delicious, it wasn't terrible, but I probably won't be serving it for dessert at my next dinner party," she said.

My managing editor, Christyn (who provided the spaghetti and sprinkles, by the way) was eager to taste it — she's a big lover of sweets.

Shockingly, she gave it an 8/10.

She found it to be super sweet but "actually kinda yummy," and she also revealed that she "actually kinda dug it."

Lisa, our digital marketing strategist, gave it a solid 6/10.

She found the maple syrup to be the most dominant of the flavors and admitted that it wasn't really gross — just REALLY sweet.

Diana, our content editor, gave it a 4/10.

The spaghetti was questionable, but she explained that the other ingredients combined would be perfect for some froyo (and she's totally right).

"I'm also just super happy to get to eat a Pop-Tart, TBH," she added.

Emily, our humor writer was eager to try the breakfast, and gave it 5/10.

"It's not the worst thing I've eaten for breakfast. Plus, I've put worse things in my mouth for the internet, so all in all, it's been a good morning," she said.
