12 Things From 'Bring It On' That Would So Not Be Okay Today

Diply 3 Jul 2018

Apparently, it was a whole different world back in 2000, because one movie that was released that year has not aged well at all.

Unfortunately, I'm talking about our favorite cheerleading flick that gives us so much spirit we could explode.

Bring It On is littered with all kinds of "nope" that we can't believe we let slide back in the day.

1. Implying that being popular and hot is better than being not.

Guys, we're all special, I don't care what the catchiest cheer of all time says.

You are beautiful, in every single way.

2. Everyone making fun of the male cheerleaders.

Oh, hell no! First of all, male cheerleaders are the bomb dot com, and secondly, implying that there is anything wrong with a guy wanting to cheer his heart out is just all kinds of hell-to-the-no.

3. That car wash scene, after we all remember that these are high school students. Underage high school students.

They even use a creepy handheld video camera shot to add to the grossness of it all.

4. When a girl pretty much performed a full on lap dance, because that's an acceptable thing that happens during cheer tryouts.

Do I need to say it again? These

5. Anything and everything about Sparky Polastri.

Umm, 'scuse me, Sparky? You're going to have to check yourself before you wreck yourself, because it is 2018, and we do not accept that kind of language around here.

Fat-shaming a high school student? What even is this?!

YouTube | Movieclips

No thank you, Sparky. You can take your terrible choreography and mosey on out of here with your bad attitude. Boy, bye!

Pretty much the only acceptable thing that Sparky gave us was "Spirit Fingers."

We will be forever grateful to him for bringing our attention to the importance of "Spirit Fingers," but everything else about Sparky is canceled.

6. Jan ogling Whitney's little sister, Jamie, who actually looks like a child.

She's like, 12, seriously. What the hell is up with all the sexualizing of these minors?!

I so need an adult right now.

7. When Courtney and Whitney laugh and say that Missy looks like a lesbian based on what she's wearing. Really? That just happened?

I'm actually covered in a blanket of shock right now thinking that this scene made it through editing.

8. But actually, can we stop with all the fat-shaming?

If someone said this IRL, there would be hell to pay!

Jan, I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

9. All of the girls calling each other "bitches" and "whores."

Sorry y'all, we've entered the age of female empowerment. Nowadays, you'd get a Yas Queen in your face if you tried to take down a fellow female.

10. When Jan totally and completely gropes Courtney without her consent while he's holding her in a cheer lift. Excuse me while I Ctrl + Alt + Delete Bring It On from existence.

Dear Jan, please go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

11. Implying that Big Red is a man just because she has no feelings.

So, because their former captain isn't sensitive, that automatically makes her less of a woman?

I really don't think so, but hey, thanks for trying.

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate Big Red's fierceness? Sure she stole some cheers, but she was on a mission to win, and win she sure did.

12. The captain of the East Compton's cheer team's name is Isis.

Kiss Ottawa | Kiss Ottawa

None of us would have batted a single lash at that name 18 years ago. But, right at this moment in time, it wouldn't fly as a character's first name. No way, no how.

Sorry, Bring It On, we're going to have to break up with you. It's not us, it's totally you.
