If there's one thing we enjoy more than watching Marvel movies, it's talking about them. In the gap between Avengers: Infinity War and the still-untitled Avengers 4, we've been poring over every leak and fan theory, hoping for a peek at what's to come in the franchise.
He's always been in the background, pulling the strings and keeping everything moving along. So why don't we talk more about the role that Nick Fury will have in taking down Thanos?
I'm being a bit sarcastic, but seriously, this theory from sfmarch07 on Reddit has us believing that there's more to Nick Fury than meets the eye.
Let's start with Captain Marvel in the 1990s.
In order for whatever this plan was to come to pass, events would have to be planned out on an incredibly micro level.
That somebody according to this theory is Colonel Nick Fury.
And maybe that's because he does.
If sfmarch07 is right, then Fury isn't talking to Captain Marvel at all. He's talking to Doctor Strange, and that meeting is the reason that he decided to become the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and form the Avengers Initiative.
While it could be true regardless of Fury's involvement, the theory explains Tony Stark's role in saving the day.
That's easy enough to understand, but this new twist focuses on the Soul Stone.
In order to get the Soul Stone, a sacrifice needs to be made. The immediate thought is that Stark might sacrifice Pepper Potts, but what if, through time travel logic, he ends up sacrificing his own parents?
It's a choice that would doom Stark to the life of emptiness and misery we've seen all along, but it's definitely the kind of sacrifice that would earn you the Soul Stone.
So what do you think? Is Nick Fury going to be revealed to be the thread that pulls the whole world back together? And what about that tragic Tony Stark theory? Be sure to let us know!
