With Brendan Fraser ‘s comeback seeming imminent given the critical praise his upcoming film The Whale has been receiving, fans of the actor are hoping he’ll take up one of his most iconic roles yet again.
And surprisingly, he said yes! If presented with the right concept, Fraser said he’d be happy to return to the screen as The Mummy ‘s Rick O’Connell.
Brendan Fraser first played Rick O’Connell in 1999.

Star of The Mummy franchise, he would continue playing O’Connell until the 2008 installation The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor .
Since then, the role has remained untouched save for the one poorly-received reboot in 2017 with Tom Cruise as the lead.
One failed reboot doesn’t mean the series has to die.

Especially when Fraser confirmed he’d be open to playing O’Connell again.
That’s right, in a recent interview with Variety , Fraser said he’d be more than willing to reprise his role if someone presented the right concept.
“I don’t know how it would work,” he admitted.

“But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.”
He also threw a little bit of shade at the 2017 reboot, laying out why it wasn’t nearly as successful as the first.
“It is hard to make that movie,” he began, “The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy , which I didn’t see in that film, was fun.”
“That was what was lacking in that incarnation.”

“It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
He knows striking that balance can be tough, saying, “I know how difficult it is to pull it off, I tried to do it three times.”
