When you have kids, life gets complicated. Yes, you have more mouths to feed and take care of, but that’s hardly the end of it. One thing that often falls by the wayside is maintaining a healthy relationship with your partner.

Of course they do! We all do. The thing is, sometimes it’s hard to articulate the crankiness when you’re in the midst of feeling cranky. This can lead to all sorts of disagreements.

One of her recent posts went viral.
Laura set out to explain to men some of the possible reasons that their wife may appear to be cranky, or disinterested in hanky-panky, or just generally out of sorts.
Why doesn’t she want to get busy?
Laura says that even though it might appear your wife is disinterested in sex, she’s actually totally interested. The only problem? At the end of the day, she’s totally exhausted.
Why’s she exhausted?
…seriously? I mean, moms obviously do so much work. But Laura tries to explain it. After a mom gives the kids their bath, reads their story, does the laundry and goes to bed, well, she’s tired!
It isn’t just physical exhaustion.
It’s mental exhaustion as well. Parents have to catalogue and categorize so many things just to keep the house running properly. Doing mental gymnastics to work out these logistics is enough to make anyone weary.
Ask yourself a question.
To men snuggling up to their wives at night, Laura recommends asking: “Have I helped out today? Or have I eaten dinner and then disappeared to the toilet for five hours as soon as I was done and conveniently missed all the dishes being done?”
Yeah, that could explain a lot.
If you’re not helping out and your wife seems cranky, Laura says this lack of support is likely “the reason she snaps at you and everyone else like a rubber band.”
Don’t wait for her to ask.
Laura says that she shouldn’t have to ask anyone to help. It should be enough that you see a job that needs to be done, and you do it. After all, that’s what she does.

Everyone likes to relax. But when the house is a “bomb site”, as Laura puts it, fight the urge to sit down and pull your weight by helping out around the house.

There is anothe side.
Laura’s post didn’t talk much about hard-working dads. No doubt they’re out there, but it’s important to note that, going back centuries, most of the burden of homemaking falls on moms.

Yes! Just make a decent effort and realize that if you’re not, it’s a problem that needs to be fixed. Laura does point out in her response that her husband does work hard.
