Michael Che Is Facing Criticism After Calling Caitlyn Jenner A 'Fella' In 'SNL' Sketch
Last weekend's episode of "Saturday Night Live" would have been flawless if not for the transphobic slur made by Michael Che during the "Weekend Update" segment of the show.

Of all the things that could have gone wrong, this one was a doozy.
He started things off by throwing jabs at Kanye West, since he had just released his new gospel album, "Jesus Is King" one day prior.

He explains that Kanye is slowly turning into an "old white lady."
At which point he took the opportunity to segway into a bit about Caitlyn Jenner.

Not only did he refer to Caitlyn as "Bruce", but he also used the pronoun "he" and called her a "fella."
As expected, this joke did not go over so well with fans...

Michael is now facing accusations from all corners of the internet of being transphobic.
“Rapper Kanye West released his new gospel album, 'Jesus Is King', yesterday,” Michael said.

“At first I thought Kanye was losing his mind, and now I feel like he’s fine."
"He’s just turning into an old white lady,” he added.

“It’s like, how long before this guy changes his name to Kathy?"
(This is where things went awry).
"Now, you might think that I’m crazy, but about five years ago, there was a fella named Bruce Jenner, and he moved to Calabasas.”

While this line was obviously meant to be a joke, evidently, no one found it very funny...

The joke did not go over super well with the SNL audience, based on the reaction from the crowd in the clip.
This fan sarcastically chimed in, criticizing Michael's choice of joke material.
The Caitlyn Jenner jokes are seriously dated. It is 2019. Time to move on, people!
This person pointed out that the moment Michael said the joke, there were audience members that immediately knew he shouldn't have.
Everyone at home probably had the same reaction.
Obviously, people were upset.
A lot of people took to Twitter to voice their complaints against the joke and the show for allowing it.
They demanded an apology.
Unfortunately, I doubt we'll get one from Michael Che or from SNL.

Some people argued that the joke wasn't transphobic and was only using Caitlyn's deadname to be accurate to the time period it was referring to.
Others thought Caitlyn shouldn't be defended.
Some people feel that Caitlyn's continued support for Donald Trump leaves her as an open target for some jokes and mockery.
Some people are aiming their backlash at the entire program for signing off on the joke and allowing it to be broadcasted.

Just in case SNL isn't aware, transgender women are, in fact, women.
Michael later took to his Instagram story to address the backlash. However, it wasn't to apologize.

He acknowledged the criticism, but pointed out that some of the comments he's received have crossed a line.
He revealed that he received a message that called him the "n-word" and a “transphobic, grotesque ape."

But he seemed to laugh it off.
“How would you know what I’m afraid of?," he joked.
Caitlyn hasn't commented on the controversy. But need I remind you that last month she already proved to us that she has been able to handle all the jokes revolving around her gender identity?

During Comedy Central’s roast for Alec Baldwin, Caitlyn spoke up about the jokes aimed at her transition.
“All of you are making these silly comments and jokes about how I kind of cut it off,” she said, referencing her genitals.
