Selena Gomez Addresses Hailey Bieber Controversy — Asks Fans To Stop 'Being Rude'

Selena Gomez addressed the backlash, in an Instagram live video, against Hailey Baldwin following the release of her new song “Lose You to Love Me,” a song fans are speculating was written about her breakup with Justin Bieber.

On Tuesday night, Selena Gomez released her new song "Lose You To Love Me" — an emotional breakup ballad that fans believe was written about Justin Bieber.

Her lyrics aren't exactly giving us the impression that the song could be about anybody else.

If you aren't familiar with Selena and Justin's messy, dumpster fire of a relationship, here's the short version of the story:

Hollywood Gossip

They met in 2009, started officially dating in 2010, and broke up and got back together repeatedly for the following eight years.

Every time they broke up, it was almost certain that they would eventually get back together.

So, in April 2018 when they called it quits for the 1 billionth time and Justin started dating Hailey Baldwin two months later, then got engaged to her three months later, fans were shook.

And if we were shook, I can only imagine how Selena felt.

And by every indication of her latest song, it looks like her breakup from Justin was anything but easy.

Anyway, fans are speculating that Selena's lyrics: “Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn / You got off in the hurtin’ when I wasn’t yours,” are about Justin's 2015 album "Purpose".

In 2015, on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Justin admitted that "Purpose" was inspired by Selena, and three of the songs on the album are about her.

Her lyrics got even more Justin-specific: “In two months you replaced us like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it in the thick of healing.”

Fans think this line is definitely about Justin, since he started dating his now-wife, Hailey Baldwin, two months after his final split from Selena.

Anyway, Hailey became targeted by Selena-fans after she posted a song called, "I'll Kill You" by Summer Walker, shortly after Selena released her new song.

Fans thought that this was Hailey trying to send a message of some kind to Selena using the lyrics of this song, so they quickly jumped to her defense.

Hailey responded to the backlash on Instagram, but later deleted her comment.

But everybody knows that once you put something on the internet, it's never really gone...

"Please stop with this nonsense," she wrote. "There is no 'response'. This is complete BS".

Selena eventually had to chime in and ask her fans to stand down.

She recorded an Instagram live stream, thanking everyone for the overwhelming support of her new song, and took the time to briefly remind her fans to be kind to others.

"While I'm on this live... I am grateful for the response that the song is getting," she said.

"I'm so grateful. However, I do not stand for women tearing other women down."

And presumably, by "women" she means her fans, and by "other women" she is referring to Hailey Bieber.

AKA, she is asking her fans to leave Hailey tf alone.

"And I will never, ever be by that," she went on.

"So, please be kind to everyone — it doesn't matter what the situation is."

“Please be kind, I don’t like seeing people being disrespectful or rude to other people, so please don’t do that.”

There's no telling if Selena reached out to Hailey directly or not, but either way, I totally support this.

"If you're my fans, don't be rude to anybody, please," she continued.

"Don't go off and say things that you just feel in the moment — just, please. For me."

Big shout out to Selena for keeping it classy af, urging her fans to kill 'em with kindness.
