Fatboy Slim Plays 'Right Here Right Now' Remix With Greta Thunberg UN Speech

While Greta Thunberg's passionate speech to the UN on September 23 occurred over two weeks ago, its impact seems just as strongly felt today as when it was breaking news.

Those who balked at her message continue to do so long after she had her final words for them three days after the fact, while those who also understand the gravity of the situation have found creative ways to incorporate her words.

And recently, a remix of a dance track from the 90s has proven once again that nothing spurs on musical inspiration like a crisis.

Even those who aren't familiar with Fatboy Slim's name have likely heard his work at some point.

That could be because they saw Christopher Walken dance in the video for his song "Weapon Of Choice," or it could be because they've suddenly found themselves trying to get the words "right about now, the funk soul brother, check it out now" out of their heads.

But today, we'll be talking about his composition, "Right Here, Right Now."

Named after the song's only lyrics, you've likely heard the complex, energetic track in a commercial or a presentation explaining how much the world is accelerating.

But although the song was released back in 1998, a recent remix has given it new relevance.

Created by David Scott, the creative force behind an electronic act called The Kiffness, the remix circulated throughout the internet before reaching the ears of Fatboy Slim himself.

On September 25, two days after Thunberg's UN speech, the artist reposted Scott's work on his Instagram page.

So what does this remix have to do with Greta Thunberg?

You may recall that the original song features a long intro that builds tension before anybody says "right here, right now."

Well, the remix adds Thunberg's now famous speech to that intro and as it gets to the part where she says, "We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line," it suddenly becomes clear what will happen next.

The vocal sample that once said "right here, right now" has been swapped out for Thunberg's voice repeating those words.

And as The Guardian reported, Fatboy Slim apparently liked the results enough that he played it live at the Mainyard dance event in Gateshead, England.

A fan named Scott Jackson tweeted a clip of the remix out and said that the speech blended perfectly with Fatboy Slim's original work.

Whether he's right or not is up to you to decide.
