She has a long storied career of singing in the film and on stage, but for The Sound Of Music alone she will sit in the musical hall of fame for the rest of time.
It all started when she had irritation in her throat onstage.
She went into the hospital and they found "non-cancerous nodules" on her throat, also known as cysts (thanks, Dr. Pimple Popper).
As Julie Andrews herself puts it:
“When I woke up from an operation to remove a cyst on my vocal cord, my singing voice was gone. I went into a depression. It felt like I’d lost my identity.”
Julie Andrews' singing voice. A national treasure, gone in a mere couple of hours.
Sure, she has found happiness doing other careers, but she misses singing. We all miss your singing Miss Andrews.
