A Grandfather With Vitiligo Crochets Inclusive Dolls For Children With The Condition

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that causes pigmentation across the body. It causes patchy skin coloring and often progresses over the years.

Models like Winnie Harlow, store mannequins, and Barbie Dolls have helped to normalize and bring awareness to the condition, which affects about 1% of the world's population.

This grandfather, who has vitiligo himself, hand crochets the most perfect dolls for children with the condition.

According to Bright Side, João Stanganelli began making the dolls for his granddaughter so that she would remember him.

Cue the "awwws!"

João, now 64, started noticing the condition when he was in his late 30s.

He had to retire early due to a health concern, and decided to take up crocheting as a hobby, leading to the creation of his vitiligo dolls.

He now crochets a variety of dolls after the vitiligo dolls' success.

Not only does he crochet dolls of all shapes, sizes, and races, but he also crochets other inclusive dolls, like ones in wheelchairs or others with alopecia.

At the end of the day, his goal is to boost the self-esteem of children and help them feel included.

What an amazing example for his granddaughters and for everyone!
